Mercedes C-class or BMW 5 series

I am not all that much older than the OP and could buy a handful of 5-series in cash, but I don't weigh myself down with dead and depreciating assets. I can afford and have whatever fun I want to, and that is in large part due to the fact that I do not drive $50k+ vehicles. Financial freedom is a lot more important to me than impressing other people with fancy "stuff," but I see where he is coming from. To each his own.

I'd personally lease because I bet you'll want no part of that car in 3yrs.

    Yes sir

PhD in obesity studies(kinesiology). I'm not a medical doctor. I'm a consultant for organizations facing problems with obesity and its comorbidities. I work primarily with schools, but I have also done community outreach programs for cities all over the country, corporate wellness for large companies, and taught exercise physiology at the college level.

Is obesity a disease or a personal problem

I agree with you. I want to grab a fat kid drag him out of the house when it is 100 degrees outside and make him run.

  • I'd go 5 series. I just got a Cadillac CTS and love it. For 10k more than 5 series I'd get CTS-V :)-.

  • Maybe it's just me but I try to buy American and feel a sense of pride buying America's products. Used to drive an Infiniti G35x and love the Caddy compared to it. There are plenty of luxury cars lighter and with more hp but when you factor speed, comfort, and looks you can't beat the CTS. Im 30, Caddy is not your grandparents car anymore. Cadillac ATS comes out this fall and will be great too!

If I'm going to school for more than 4 years, I'm getting an M.D. or a J.D.

I make just as much as a lot of lawyers, have way less job competition and more career freedom, and left school with zero debt. A JD is good for one thing, practicing law; I can(and have) worked in strength & conditioning, public and private education, public health, corporate wellness, for independent research labs, and in healthcare. My PhD program also set me up with a job; I was paid a full-time salary for part-time work which was spent pretty much doing research for school while I was a full-time student. Unless you get into a top-20 school and do well, getting a JD is no sure thing and it will cost you $100k+.

I was very close to going to medical school, but I was putting my ex(wife) through dental school at the time and paying for it completely out of pocket. With how healthcare is changing I could not imagine going another 2yrs of school(more than my 2yr PhD program) without any income, then 2-5yrs residency making jack and then to jump directly into a field with an uncertain future.

I don't have the income ceiling of a doctor or lawyer, but I do more than fine and definitely work less and have less stress. All depends on what you enjoy doing. I'd bet that my job satisfaction is better than 90% of medical doctors and lawyers.

Cadillac CTS is a very nice car, but I wouldn't suggest it for a 21 year old young man. 30-35, maybe, but not 21. Of course, that's just my opinion.

Drive whatever you have until the wheels fall off and retire 5yrs earlier instead biggrin

  • It's easy, have fun with it. Set a few weeks to test drive cars, get to know sales staff, and compare maintenance. My Infiniti maintenance was expensive. Something to consider with Cadillac is 4 yr 50000 miles: oil changes, tire rotation, air filters, and Multi point inspections are free.

  • I can see what your saying about being 21 and not driving a Caddy but a 5 series isn't for young folks either. It's up to original poster, have fun with it and research on edmunds invoice prices and ratings.
