The Blue Board

Point is the burbs need Detroit and Detroit needs them. We can't cut the head or heart out and hope it lives. My wife lived through the riots down there. My father in law refused to move to grosse pointe until they were out of high school. She was part of the budding that mixed schools of different races back in the 60's and my father in law sat with a water hose during the riots protecting his business.

I am in a unique situation because I have businesses in six Michigan counties and belong to chamber of commerce organizations in various cities. I know how the burbs need Detroit and I get a chip on my shoulder when suburbanites act like a healthy Detroit isn't necessary. If I spoke to sarcastically I apologize, but those who latch on to the notion our state would be fine without it just don't seem to understand how interconnected they all are.

I love what I see young people doing in Detroit. I think it's becoming ver cool down there. However, here is what really needs to happen for Detroit to come back. Families with kids have to want to make their way back to the D. We're a decade or so away from that happening.

It is in need of some big help. It's not perfect and the elected leaders, school board members and school officials have stolen from is for years. NAFTA didn't help and the UAW might have got a bit to strong. People had to leave. The city now has way too many square feet to deal with and needs to turn the outlying abandoned homes into fields and farms. Some outline blocks have one family living in a two block radious with all the other home abandoned.

All true and it sucks. But it is fixable and it can happen. It's frustrating, but we can do this bit by bit. You can't give up on Detroit. It reminds me of my 64 thunderbird. It looked horrible 15 years ago, but bit by bit it was restored and now I'm pretty happy with it. It takes time.

Flint is horrible. Judging by the FL in your name you are from Florida so you know horrible. Every screwed up crime that ever happens seems like its in Florida. Why does Michigan get such a bad reputation when we have a state that has people eating faces, killing their parents and throwing parties after and shooting door to door salesmen? I know them salesmen are annoying but come on.

This is why St. Louis is such a problem. There has been constant pushback from the county (all the suburbs) whenever anyone suggests extending the Metro transit lines. The suburbs are actively fighting the city pretty much incessantly.

A six-year old in Detroit just hanged himself in his closet with his belt. Heartbreaking. Florida sucks too, no doubt, but let's not pretend that terrible shit happens everywhere. The only difference is that we're the ones who always have to defend ourselves.

Ya the US Census is where i obtained that information. Again, if having your lowest population since 1910 is a win for you than thats awesome. I go to Detroit once a quarter for work. I go out and party and have a pretty good time. I could have a good time going out drinking in Somalia thought. Dude you can defend it all you want but the city is a total dump. Saying my info comes from Wikipedia doesn't make it true, this is from the US census, USA Today and New York times. No major city has ever been in the state Detroit is in and thats a fact. Whats going on with this.... (Honest Question)

MSU had a black head coach, Bobby Williams. 2000-2003ish

We had a black DC.

UofM allowed black players on the football team 26 years before MSU did.

IMO, this is a stupid argument to have. Both schools were ahead of the curve with civil rights.

Although I'm starting to think MSU and UofM fans hate whites from the south...so again racist. And don't even try to tell me you have white southern friends or that your married to a southern white woman with half Yankee half cracker kids!
