According to the NCAA, if a player redshirts after he's suspended, the suspensions roll over into the next season

That's if it is a NCAA suspension, not a suspension from a coach.

The NCAA did not suspend Stonum. Coach Hoke did. Stonum didn't violate any NCAA rules.

Hoke didn't suspend Stonum, he redshirted him

"While it would be great to have Darryl on the field this season, we feel it is in his best interest and the best interest of our program for him to redshirt,"

Meaning he was on the sidelines and travelled with the team, including to NOLA for the sugar bowl. Oh man what a harsh punishment

You dishonestly misrepresented that article. It clearly states that Stonum was suspended indefinitely and was given a path to earn his way back onto the team:

"Hoke indefinitely suspended Stonum following the arrest but left the door open to a possible return for the season if Stonum met several conditions."

"Suspended" = redshirted? Man all of our freshmen last year were "suspended" . They must've done something horrible

The fact that you compare sitting a Junior starter for the year as a punishment, with red shirting Freshmen who need to develop physically speaks volumes about your ignorance. Braintrust... psst. Fitting name for somebody trying to over-compensate for something.

Stoning didn't play a down under Hoke, he was suspended for the season after his third offense and kicked off the team after his fourth offense. Don't know what you are getting at.

I think people just wonder how he was allowed four offenses to begin with, considering how sanctimonious you guys are when it comes to discipline and doing things the "right way." If Stonum was at MSU, your fan base would have trashed Dantonio and called for Stonum to be booted after his second transgression, and you know it. But because he played for Michigan, you guys rationalize and justify Hoke's actions. But, that is typical of most fans, I guess. We are knee-jerk stone-throwers when it comes to other programs, but are fair and careful analysts when it comes to our own.

Personally, I couldn't care less how Hoke handles disciplinary matters. I don't envy the position that he's in with the Touissant decision, and no matter what he chooses to do, he's going to piss somebody off. I think at the end of the day most coaches try to make decisions that are in the best interest of the offending player as well as their team/program. If you want to believe Hoke is the only guy in the business who's 100% pure and holy, fine. Go nuts about that.

People want to deride Tom Izzo over Derrick Nix, yet won't bring up the fact he booted two key players (Allen and Lucious) off his team, which is not something you will see at most major/successful programs. Every situation is different and should be handled accordingly. We as fans cannot pretend to know what is right and what is wrong in the handling of matters that we are not close to.

Anyway, you'd think this stuff would teach programs not to schedule big games in week 1. It's a long off-season and with so many guys on your roster, somebody is bound to screw up and do something stupid. Better to sit them out against Eastern Michigan than Alabama. lol

Dont remember seeing any UM fans calliing for Floyd to be booted from ND after his second, so doubt we'd have done it to yall either. Hoke gave him a clean slate when he came in, he messed up, got suspended a year, messed up again and is now playing for Baylor, I dont see rationalization or anything at all wrong with that.

To say being redshirted for no other reason that discipline isnt actually a suspension is asinine (not a response to you, one of the morons posting above)

Well he had two under RR, where I believe he was suspended, then he had his third offense under Hoke who suspended him for the season and told him he needed to do certain things to play his senior season, lastly the fourth offense occurred and he was kicked off the team.

So the message here is that it's okay to fuck up multiple times as long as said fuckups are evenly distributed amongst different coaches. Got it.

Look, you're not getting my point. I'm aware of the timeline of events. I'm not saying I have a problem with the way Hoke handled Stonum, I'm saying I have a problem with self-righteous fans who clearly don't analyze situations at other programs in the same fair and precise manner as they do their own.

Well, the way Dantonio has handled some of the legal situations in E.L. has been sleezy at best.

Rich Rod was completely out of his element here. There's a pretty good chance you won't see kids like Justin Feagan or Demar Dorsey recruited by Michigan.. and that's how most of our fans want it.

Is Hoke supposed to kick someone who he doesn't even know off the team? He wanted to wait to see what his character was like, and it's ironic for you guys to be criticizing us when your coach reinstated a player who beat up a hockey player.
