Michigan State's memory loss

Pretty sure one of them lit a recruiting letter on fire and posted an instagram pick and Wolverine nation starting building a statue of the 17-year old high school junior in the middle of the diag. When your relevancy has slipped so far that you brag about recruiting victories and non-conference season imaginary awards, it's the little things that make being a fan worthwhile.

Oh, and Bama kicked our ass. Two years ago. I look to it as a necessary evil for our coaching staffs development and growth. In some ways I am grateful of that beatdown, it was needed to get where we want to go.

It was needed to get to the Capitol One Bowl and near the top of the B10 after the beatdown? Michigan got to a similar level last year as well and without a beatdown. I guess this year the necessary evil of a beatdown for the UM coaching staff will push Michigan to even greater heights. Right?

At the end of the day my money is on Cousins to have a better career in the pros than Robinson.

I would take that bet without a doubt. Cousins is going to be a good backup and maybe start later in his career. Denard is going to be a very explosive KR/slot WR for a while.

Sure, whatever it takes to show your coaches that you simply aren't there yet.

It's called adversity. You know, like when you turn thirty and your mom threatens to up your rent so you have to work an extra shift at the car wash.

Sorry to hear about you having to take that extra shift. Things will get better.

My guess is the Bama game will help Michigan in the B10 season more than it will hurt it. That is important considering Michigan was already one of the favorites to win the B10.

Note to you as a non-B10 fan:

MSU's players and fans are very jealous of the attention that Michigan gets and they celebrate Michigan losing more than their own victories. MSU fans know they were smoked by Bama during their best season in recent memory, but they know the media/national audience does not expect more out of them than that so they are not too upset about getting blown out by Bama... and Michigan players were not tweeting about it for the same reason. Michigan fans and the media/nation expect more out of Michigan and that grinds Spartans deep down.

MSU will get blown out a couple times this year (like they do each year) and they know they would not be able to hang with Bama, but they'll never admit it and they'll keep their attention focused on Michigan's stumbles instead.

Essentially, this is the origin of the "little brother" comment seeping through.

    Best?

Considering 2009 we won the MNC in Pasadena
And in 2011 we won the MNC in New Orleans

2010 year is actually the worst season in recent memory.. Despite the fact that we were a way above average team that had some tough, close losses

It may have been the most talented team to ever have 4 losses. They finally put it all together at the end of the season. Great team.

He's saying that Michigan State got smoked by Bama during Michigan State's best season in recent memory. Record-wise, he's right, though most would agree the 2011 squad was a better team than 2010 for MSU.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Yeah, that was a hyperbole for the sake of taunting Robinson. Not that I support the Twitter smacktalk, but don't get so butthurt about it. The only purpose this thread serves is to remind people that MSU fared poorly against Bama two years ago. Not exactly a groundbreaking thread.

My purpose was to remind MSU fans. It was not to be ground breaking...pretty sure majority of the threads aren't. Mission accomplished.

Yes...I am a Bama fan and I started this thread...lol!

I meant that the OP sounded really butthurt. Hence the thread.

That's ironic considering I am a Bama fan and I saw both teams play...same result.

No...I am not a Big 10 fan but I do understand being transparent. Secondly, the 2010 season Bama finished 10-3, I wouldn't call that best season in recent memory. 2009 we were 14-0, I would call that one of the best seasons in recent memory.

    Ledrick_1914

  • See, the difference is, we own Michigan. And Denard Robinson.

It was MSU's best season. They won the B10 for the only time since 1986. And it was Bama's worst iin the last few.

  • Except in 2011, MSU wasn't ranked in the Top 10, expected to be one of the top teams nationally, or thought to have had a heisman candidate in their senior quarterback...

Say what you want, but the situations are different

    jwarsenal9

  • I also find the memory loss to be humorous. Namely because I don't think there is a Michigan State fan who forgot what happened that day. If anything, we were the only fan base trying to be reasonable with Wolverine nation about what it would take to win. So please, spare us the, "did you forget about the capitol one bowl?"

I don't hear anything about the other bowl game that day between an SEC team and a school from the state of Michigan. 52-14 ring a bell???

What?! In 2010, MSU was ranked in the top 10 more often than they were in 2011. Heading into the Alabama game (the beatdown we are discussing here) MSU was ranked #7...higher than UM this year and got beat down worse by a lower-ranked Bama team.

MSU won a Big Ten Championship, had 11 wins and was #7 heading into the Bama game with only one loss. They even were one of the last undefeated teams (therefore in the BCS discussion) before they got blown out against Iowa. In 2011, they lost 3 games and weren't ranked high enough to even be considered for a BCS bowl.

The first B10 championship in decades heading into that Bama game against a 4 loss Bama team. But....you think the 2011 team was better because....they never had to play Bama?

We were better in 2011. You can't just look to the rankings.

I was responding to his points. If you want to say the "eye test" meant they were better then have it. (Not much to debate other than to share opinions.)

Just don't say that heading into the 2011 Bama game, the Spartans were not ranked in the top 10...when they were #7. I have to call out something like that.
