I definitely believe the champion comes out of the B10 West this year. And, not to dis Sparty, I think it comes down to us and Nebraska. Big Red was handicapped this year by having to adjust to an entirely new conference. They have most of their talent coming back, just like we do. Our game against them in Lincoln this year might very well be for a Rose Bowl berth.

I don't care about dissing Sparty but i just don't see them competing for the Big Ten this year with them losing their entire receiving core and QB. Their running game wasn't very good last year and i don't really know what makes anyone think it's going to be significantly better this year with what should be a much weaker passing game to support it.

As far as Nebraska goes, they have trouble with running QBs so I think that bodes well for us in that game. If i remember correctly, their loss to Northwestern last year was at home so I don't really see the game being in Lincoln being much of a factor.

MSU's defense is going to be scary, though. It's a shame that the three best teams in the Big Ten that can win a title are all in the same conference.

I really like our team next year

I agree with your first paragraph, but I think you are underestimating Nebraska in your second. We played a nearly flawless game against them last year. The fumbles we caused alone were epic. I am not saying we are going to lose to them this year, but the game is in Lincoln and they will be looking for payback. Both of the games we lost last season were on the road. I expect the 2012 UM-NE game to be very competitive.

Sparty's defense will be very good, but they lose Worthy. He was all B10 and will probably go in the first round of the draft. For all the hand-wringing over how we are going to replace Mike Martin, Jerel Worthy was better (I apologize for putting that in print, but it is the truth) and his loss is bigger. His play anchored Sparty's defense the past two years and they will not be the same without him. Add to that their wholesale losses on the offensive side of the ball and I think they are going to struggle this year. Oh, and we get them in Ann Arbor.

Everybody says this about their D like it was something special last year. They gave up 24 points or more in 6 games last year. For their stats they feasted off their weaker competition.

Did you watch the Northwestern/Nebraska game. Nebraska could not handle Persa/Coulter at QB in Lincoln. Before the game last year i was really worried we would lose that game but all the Nebraska guys kept assuring me how bad they were against running QBs. Putting our game and their game against Northwestern together i firmly believe the Nebraska guys knew exactly what they were talking about.

Ok, but NW picks off someone unexpected every year. We had a hell of a time with them last year ourselves. Nebraska had 8 entirely new conference foes to prepare for from scratch last year. They will be better prepared for everyone in 2012. And, again, I am not saying we will lose to them. I am saying they will be our primary competition in the division.

I can agree they are our primary competition. I just like the matchup we have against them. The Nebraska guys convinced me themselves last year that they will have a hard time stopping Denard.

This is just surprising to me since they have Taylor Martinez to practice against. Obviously, Taylor Martinez isn't on Denard's level, but he's still a decent running QB, and you'd think the defense would be more prepared to face that type of skillset.

Then again, Denard is the most electric player in college football, so there's really no surefire way to prepare for him...

Been loaded down by school and baseball, ready for summer vacation. I just posted "In your head" in a MSU thread about Michigan's Spring game, needless to say I don't think I'll be able to read stuff from there for another month.

I love baseball, probably more than football. I love the stats part of it and you don't really appreciate what these guys do unless you play the sport.
