Defensive recruiting has been terrible in terms of the level of talent RR was bringing in or the utter failure to develop it (probably both). With the OL, I actually think the talent has been decent but the lack of bodies is the problem. Was it two years ago when Michigan signed like 25 kids and only one was an OL and it was Pace, who may never play?

It's both. It's one thing to be hit and miss in O-line recruiting, but it's just stupid when you don't have the bodies.

In 3 1/2 years of recruiting, RR and his staff got verbals from 7 linemen, and even with our lack of bodies, only 2 of them have been capable of contributing:
    Ricky Barnum
    Patrick Omameh
    Michael Schofield
    Quinton Washington
    Taylor Lewan
    Christian Pace
    Jack Miller

  • Dan O'Neill comes to mind too. Yeah we definitely needed more bodies, not slot receivers.

O'Neill actually committed while Carr was the coach. Regardless, he transferred to Western.

Rich Rod's staff would deem linemen "not fit enough to play," and then they wouldn't get reps in practice.

For now? That does not sound like a ringing endorsement. shrug

I completely agree. And Quinton Washington doesn't even play on the OL any longer. However, I give RR credit for the Bryant and Posada verbals.

Crazy thing is during RR's tenure we had a problem with roster balance and not enough bodies on defense. Looking at the roster going forward (2012), it looks like we could face a similar problem on offense.

  • An interesting scenario that could play out-- the fullback scholarship might be held until around National Signing Day. If elite prospects we're pursuing aren't available, then we'll take a fullback.

This is probably the root of the rumor that I was told. However, why would we even have to negatively recruit these kids? ESPN does that for us.

  • Kyle Kalis thinks Wormley will be blue.

    From the article:
"The biggest thing about going to Michigan would be going against Tom (Strobel) and Chris Wormley every day (in practice)," Kalis told Bill Kurelic of Bucknuts.com. "I've pretty much come to the conclusion that Wormley is going to Michigan."

Report: Kyle Kalis thinks Chris Wormley is headed to Michigan

Two coveted recruits from Ohio five-star OT Kyle Kalis of Lakewood and four-star DE Chris Wormley of Toledo Whitmer will visit Michigans campus this weekend. But Kalis says Wormley might have already settled on a college.

  • Curious how Peat's visit went at UM. What have you heard? Just read on my team site that we have positioned ourselves with Nebraska. Said he will be making an official visit for the USC most likely. Also what's your feel with Jarrod Wilson? Thought he was a UM lock, but seems after visiting ND it's not such a sure thing. Would still be shocked if he choose the Irish though.

Peat had a good time at Michigan and Notre Dame on his trip up north. He'll make a few mote visits and then narrow his list later this summer. I get the feeling that there will be no more room by the time he decides. Especially with the Kalis news.

IMO, the longer it goes with Wilson the more likely it seems he'll end up somewhere else. We should know more by Monday at the latest.

Haven't heard anything on Peat, although he tweeted a couple times and seemed like he enjoyed it. We if close ranks on Kalis this weekend and stay hot after Diamond, that'll probably be it for us on the OL.

As for Wilson, cautious optimism. If I had to guess: UM by a nose over ND.

I would rather have a good to great D and a fair O than a horrible D and great O. Having a defense like a swinging gate is the most frustrating thing from a fan's point of view. I will take 7-3 wins all day.
