What exactly are you guys hearing with reference to Spence? He's generally been pretty quiet. Outside of PSU and somewhat Maryland, not sure who else is truly in it. Anyone know if he managed to go south this summer and visit the SEC schools? I know there was one delusional guy who, earlier, thought Florida led for him despite never having visited.

I live in Harrisburg. It would be very very surprising if he doesn't end up at PSU.

  • I think Allen Gant is severly underrated. He didn't have a good junior year because he was reading his press clippings and he was injured. I think this kid is going have a very good senior season and very good college career. Don't sleep on him, he is very talented.

Do you think JoePa will retire after this season? Or stay a couple more years? If I were a recruit, I'd be cautious about being recruited into a school were the HC isn't gonna be there for more than a year. Not trying to flame, just interested in what you think..

I think a lot of PSU fans are resigned to believing Joe Pa will retire when he dies, and only after.

To be honest, if you look at the hires PSU has made in all its other programs, I wouldn't be worried as a recruit. They've started going outside the program and the "family" to get big name hires in volleyball, lacrosse, wrestling, hockey, etc. Even basketball they did a good job of picking a guy (from what we've seen so far). I would expect the same for football, especially considering how much money boosters would pony up for a new coach.

You're absolutely right that no matter how much you try and talk to recruits about it, Joe Pa's age and the prospect of a new coaching staff scares kids off. It's not attractive to a lot of them. However, there are some who simply say "Penn State will always be Penn State." It's a matter of the brand, not the coach. Those are really the only kind of kids we can get on board at this point. I truly think a new coach will really revitalize this program in terms of recruiting. Maybe not quite on an FSU level, but we should be able to dominate the northeast.

But who knows...maybe Joe is in it only for one last run and to pass Eddie Robinson (9 more wins, I think). At the rate we're recruiting, that will either happen in the next year or two or not at all, unfortunately.

Thanks for the Info! Your right about Penn St being Penn St. JoePa seems to have a great passion towards the team, university and the fans.

It has come to the point where I honestly expect JoePa to coach another 5-10 years easily. I could see him just passing away in his sleep in an offseason after declaring that he'll be back yet again. It'll be a very sad day for the Big Ten and college football. He truly is a legend.

I'm just saying that Scout might not have it in the Midwest. Either that, or Pipkins is somehow not one of the top 101 players in the Midwest.
