They work slightly differently, so its hard to say which is tougher. The new SEC rule is a fixed cap at 25. The problem is if a team signs three classes of 25 in a row and has little or no attrition, they only could fit 10 more players before running afoul of the NCAA 85 total limit. The SEC rule still allow that team to sign another 25 in year four, so long as it found a way to cut 15 from the team in time for camp. The B10 rule would only allow the team to sign only 10 + 3 or 13 in the fourth class.

On the other hand, the SEC rule never permits a team to sign more than 25, even if some players can EE and fit in the previous years' class. This year, even with transfers and attrition due to legitimate medical waivers, UM still could not sign more than 25 if we were in the SEC.

I like the B10 rule better, though it is more complicated.

I like the B1G rule better, too, and while each one has its own "toughness," it's still easy to oversign with the SEC's rule. I don't think a hard cap is getting at the root of the issue. And besides, I'm pretty sure there are a number of ways to get around that hard cap, considering I've seen the schools "sign" 31-32 even after they made the hard cap of 28. They love having their JUCO farm system down in the south...

Where do you hear this? All I heard from SMSB about him today was that Biggs is excited to be teammates with Royce and Terry, and Terry said he committed to Michigan because he had a lot of family with strong connections. (That doesn't sound like a great reason IMO).

  • Richardson has not decided if he wants to go through with his visits or not. He would like too, but im guessing he does not want to lose his spot and at the end of the day I doubt he even ends up taking visits . Im hoping Michigan takes another corner in this class even if Trich stays with us, Yuri Wright is too good to turn down. He had some pretty strong quotes about his interest level in Michigan today that lead me to believe if we get this kid on campus we stand a pretty good chance to land him.

  • Can we not let this degrade to an emoticon fest, hard to tell when info of substance comes through and I don't want to ignore you guys because you all usually add a lot of quality posts to recruiting discussions. So to get back on track, what are these good things that Yuri Wright had to say about Michigan recently?

Basically that he grew up dreaming about going to U of M and that us and Georgia are the only two officials as of now that he is definitely planning on taking.

  • Getting back to Schutt....
Perhaps Hoke & Co. felt like they were getting sloppy seconds, for a total lack of a better phrase.
Bear with me......by all accounts, Schutt was headed to ND to commit only to get trumped by Day. Schutt figures he can just call up Hoke and tell him he's suddenly on the market. But maybe Hoke thinks, "Hold the phone. You weren't warm to Michigan until AFTER ND snubbed you. Sorry son, you're not someone who truly wants to play for Michigan. You're just looking for a safety net after falling off the Golden Dome."

Maybe this is Hoke showing loyalty to a couple commits who we've been dancing with the entire Prom. Just because some hot chick walks in the door in the last hour of the dance doesn't mean we're dumping our dates.

Well Kalis was open to Michigan before Tressel left. It wasn't oh no Tressel is gone, now where should I go.

There was silence betweebn the coaches and Schutt, then out of no where he decides to visit.

  • did anyone else that listened to Sam Webb's recruiting round-up this morning pick up the strong hints of Michigan being in VERY VERY good position with Ondre Pipkins? and what is the news about Dymonte Thomas possibly committing soon?

Dymonte has constantly stated that we're his leader, and he's talked about committing multiple times to Strobel, Kalis, Morris, and Dunn. He told Dunn, "when you commit, so will I" which would be the greatest day ever.

There was some talk that he might commit at the BBQ, but obviously he didn't. I honestly don't expect it to take too long, but he's definitely Michigan's to lose at this point. Amazing athlete who I could see being a standout safety, and pulling some time as a receiver ish guy, a la (ala? a la?) Charles Woodson. I love it.
