Michigan fans...Get in this damn thread

    Bama:

W - I may be drinking too much koolaid, but I honestly think Michigan pulls out the shocker. Here's why...(It's long because you guys are going to have to see my reasoning)

Michigan's O vs. Bama's D - Bama's D is full of talent, and they will be one of the best in the country, but the X-Factor in this one is Denard. As reported in the spring, he decreased his interceptions by a factor of 4. If that is truly the case, it means he is making better decisions. Couple good decision making with his explosive athletic ability and it will be difficult to contain him. This is a big IF though. I fear that when he steps into a game, he gets too excited and that's when his decision making is poor as are his mechanics. He's proved to be a hard worker, and knows what he needs to correct so I see him being the difference maker. Though Bama's D will be stout, Michigan will score enough to be in position to win the game.

Michigan's D vs. Bama's O - Bama's offense is not designed to score a lot of points and their passing game vs. UM's secondary doesn't scare me, what does is the rushing game. The OL and RBs for Bama will be tough to stop. The X-Factor here is that Bama has a new OC (I think I read that somewhere). Will there be wrinkles that nobody has seen before? Absolutely. It is a matter of how well Mattison adjusts to them, and there is nobody in the country that I would have more faith in than him. Michigan's DL is somewhat suspect since they are replacing a lot, and there are several position changes, but I think they hold their own. The back 7 all return and should be very solid, and good enough to slow down the rushing attack from Bama. Bama's O will win the battle, but I think Michigan's O does too, so the score will be close.

Somewhat random prediction: This game will be decided by a special teams TD.

    AF:

W - Triple option is tricky, but Michigan wins this with more talent.

    UMASS:

    W - Cupcake

    ND:

W - If I'm not mistaken, ND has MSU the week before and they will be beat up. No answer at QB for the Irish, and Michigan's D will start clicking the 4th game, much like it did last year. Won't be as close as others have predicted.

    Purdue:

W - They can't match up, and will probably see a bit of their former commit in 3rd string QB Russell Bellomy.

    Illinois:

W - Tricky game, and they will hang around, but Michigan has more talent, and at the time, better coaching.

    MSU:

W - This will be a tough game, and falls in that toss-up category with Bama, Nebraska, and OSU, but Hoke and Co. know that they must win, and after getting beat up last year, UM will bring the fight.

    Nebraska:

L - Lincoln is tough to play in, and they will be looking for revenge after being embarrassed last year. Michigan will be worn down following the battle with MSU the week prior.

    Minnesota:

W - At this point in the season, I think Kill's health will play a factor (and that's a shame, hate to see that), and Michigan just has too much talent.

    Northwestern:

W - Michigan stuggles early, much like last year, but pulls it out by 2 TDs.

    Iowa:

W - Michigan is due, though this will be a close one.

    OSU:

W - This is a toss-up being in CBUS, but Hoke will have his kids ready for this game, and I am not convinced that Meyer is the immediate answer, though OSU will be playing in their bowl game. In all honesty, I'm only picking UM because I'm a fan, and this one will be a battle for sure.

That's 11-1 folks, which even to me seems impractical. The more I think about Bama, the more that game scares me. Let's go with 10-2...

Pretty much agree with this, but a win over Nebraska for me. Destroyed them last year, and they were better.

I am damn near shocked so many UM fans are predicting a loss against MSU. You guys talk such a big game over in the UM/MSU flame thread. What gives? You guys..... actually respect our team?

It's starting to make more sense with all the little brother jokes. It started off as a funny, "haha" moment when little Mikey ran his mouth. Now it's a battlecry to go back to the JLS days.

One UM poster in this thread predicted an MSU win. I agree one is too many, but that just proves how objective and levelheaded we are when discussing things like this.

    This is great logic.

UM knows they have to win this game; therefore, they will win.

Conversely, MSU does not know they have to win this game; therefore, they will lose.

I can not argue with this logic. It's basically written in stone at this point.

I'll elaborate for him, MSU's defense is awesome, but MSU's offense sucks so Michigan will win.

I hope more sparties post their predictions here. I'll be sure to bump this thread after the season, just like last year.

You bumped a thread last year after we beat you and finished with a better conference record? Interesting.

I know you guys had one less loss that we did, but you also played one less game. Not getting a chance to lose in the championship game to Wisconsin shouldn't be a bragging point.

  • MSU's offense "sucks?" First of all, the consensus outside of biased UM fans is that it will be decent, if not unproven. Our defense will be spectacular, top 5 in the country. It's Denard that has to prove himself here. I could see the game going either way, but most definitely will be a grind-it-out and low-scoring battle.

Others are allowed to chime in. Please don't turn this into the Official MSU/UM thread!

I want a real prediction (with reasons) of your record this year. I only singled you out because every poll I've seen has you very high (much higher than I would, as you'll see). TIA.

Sat., Sep. 1 vs. Alabama Jerry World 7:00 p.m. CT
    L. C'mon now. They still have a much better team.
Sat., Sep. 8 vs. Air Force Michigan Stadium 3:30 p.m. ET
    W. Thank you for serving, troops.
Sat., Sep. 15 vs. Massachusetts Michigan Stadium 3:30 p.m. ET
    W. Marcus Camby isn't walking through that dooooooooor.
Sat., Sep. 22 at Notre Dame South Bend, Ind. 7:30 p.m. ET
    W. Toss up. I'll go win because of the DUI.
Sat., Oct. 6 at Purdue * West Lafayette, Ind. 4:00 p.m. ET
    W. Much closer than your assholes want.
Sat., Oct. 13 vs. Illinois - Homecoming * Michigan Stadium 3:30 p.m. ET
    W. No more Zook? That's a shame. Might be closer than expected...
Sat., Oct. 20 vs. Michigan State * Michigan Stadium TBA
    L. That defense is definitely Top 5 in the country.
Sat., Oct. 27 at Nebraska * Lincoln, Neb. 7:00 p.m. CT
    L. Follow-up to the emotional MSU game...and AWAY.
Sat., Nov. 3 at Minnesota * Minneapolis, Minn. TBA
    W. They should let Tubby coach.
Sat., Nov. 10 vs. Northwestern * Michigan Stadium TBA
    W. Love Fitz...But c'mon.
Sat., Nov. 17 vs. Iowa * Michigan Stadium TBA
    W. They forfeit....players in the hospital and such.
Sat., Nov. 24 at Ohio State * Columbus, Ohio 12:00 p.m. ET
    L. Braxton Miller 1 year older with a coach that he was made to play for? Yes, please.

So...I have you going 8-4 (5-3) with one of the wins as a toss-up to ND. I see the floor as 7-5 (5-3) and the ceiling as 10-2 (7-1). UM will def lose to either MSU or OSU. Bama is gonna roofy that ass.

All joking aside (only the last sentence), how does everyone see this season going for UM? I'll stick with 8-4 (5-3).

I definitely think the magazines are over-hyping this team. Helps to sell subscriptions, I guess....

The real question - will Dantonio get fired when he goes 5-7 this season or will his two good seasons keep him off the hotseat for one more year?

Nobody has mentioned the Iowa game. Michigan has had trouble with them and and Iowa is returning some quality starters. The last time Michigan beat Iowa was 2006, I have that game circled.

I mentioned it, 3 losses in a row, they have had Michigan's #. I feel that Michigan reverses that this year also.

    ---Season Preview---

    The Offense
On offense, Michigan will be dangerous. Both quarterback Denard Robinson and runningback Fitgerald Toussaint rushed for over 1000 yards. The offensive line loses Remmington wining center David Molk, and has been reshuffled, but the unit returns one of the best tackles in the nation (Taylor Lewan). They don't look like they're going to be a liability. Michigan's wide receiver depth is suspect. Roy Roundtree and Jeremy Gallon are likely starters at the X and the Y, and neither are taller than 6'1". Look for a true freshman, Amara Darboh or Jehu Chesson to emerge as Michigan's red zone target. If the offense executes and limits mistakes, the sky's the limit.

    The Defense
Michigan's defense is sound enough to keep them in the game. Michigan's defensive line depth may be an issue. Speculation has true freshman Ondre Pipkins seeing time on the interior line in the fall, which is not a good sign for the Wolverines. However, the defensive backs will be solid, led by playmaking safety Jordan Kovacs. The play at corners was a pleasant surprise last season, with the play of Blake Countess particularly standing out. Jake Ryan, Kenny Demens, and Desmond Morgan are arguably the best linebacking corps we've had in the past 5 years. Frank Clark will be a threat coming off the end-- some are projecting 8-10 sacks for Clark. Senior Craig Roh is always reliable on the other end of the field. Former 5-star William Campbell lines up at nose tackle (possibly sharing time with Pipkins), and former end Jabril Black will provide athleticism at the other tackle position.

How was it a flame? A guy posted a question about UM's record this year and, surprise, a bunch of Nuts and Spartys (including you) trolled in with their "opinions". So I asked a question about MSU's record this year. If one is a fair question, how can the other one be a flame? The Spartys are ultrasensitive tonight.

Of the seven games I predicted MSU to lose, two of the teams (ND, Nebraska) crushed you in 2011 and two others (UM, Wisky) are road games. That leaves Boise State, Iowa and OSU. Boise has a pretty good track record of beating very good AQ teams to open the season (e.g. Oregon, Virginia Tech, Georgia) and OSU was missing almost their entire offense last year when you beat them 10-7. Prior to 2011, when was the last time you beat the Bucks? The only pick I can see maybe being controversial is the loss to Iowa, but you guys have struggled against them historically. IIRC they crushed you in 2010 despite the fact that you probably were the better team on paper. But, fine, I will give you Iowa. I guess that puts my prediction for MSU at 6-6. See, I can be reasonable!
