Michigan not bringing band vs Bama

  • Hoff, blue ......other Michigan folk. Wtf? Why are you not bribing your band? Your school says it is just another road game? Two blue bloods of college football and you can't find the coin to bring the band?

Edit: our resident article finder in bol found this but I wanted a Michigan fans take

    I suck at spelling apparently

  • Why bring them if they never get a chance to play for a score?

  • It's dumb as hell, Russ Brandon always trying to pinch every penny. The contract even has seats for the band so it's purely the transportation. Apparently he offered them to bus, and band said no. But I'm hoping there is enough backlash that he caves.

I literally cannot see why or how your band won't be there. I would think two traditional powers going at it would mean some excitement from both sides

But to the point of the thread, I have no idea what they are thinking on this one. No one thinks this is OK, and most are hoping that putting a lot of pressure on Brandon will change his mind. I know folks over on MGoBlog were sending him emails, someone even put up an email template on the issue to send to him.

This whole experience is just getting worse and worse. No Band, it is in Dallas, ticket prices are ridiculous, etc.. Should have been a home and home from the beginning.

He will. It only costs 400K to transport them for this game. Expensive yes but not compared to what they're making for the game.

  • The Buckeyes didn't bring their famous band to the Coliseum. We send some form of our band, from 50-100 members to every away game we play, the full 300+ to South Bend, and one of the northern schools for the "weekender".

You could hear our band, loud and clear, over the din at the Shoe, lol.

  • Mrider pretty much covered. Fans hate the idea, Brandon is going to catch a ton of crap for it, and he will reverse the decision.

Who's Russ Brandon? I know Dave Brandon is Michigans AD but Russ Brandon I have no idea. Wait I have heard of Russell Brand but I don't think he's affiliated with U of M.

Don't your alums open up their checkbook to help cover the costs?

We do, they're part of the team. And believe me, every time we read opposing fans complaining of our "irritating band playing the same song over and over", it puts a smile on our face when we write that check.

Some people think that this may be a bit of a ploy to have an alum pick up the bill or increase donations for this to happen. Conspiracy sounding, yes, but I have seen a few folks mention it.

Wow major mind cramp. Bills CEO is Russ Brandon and I've been all over NFL draft recently. My mistake.

  • I think most every Michigan fan is pissed about this. Also not unique to UM. Apparently, Ohio State wasn't going to send their band down to Texas (2006?) for the home-and-home, until a private donation was made to send them. I can't fathom why this would would even be an issue.

As an aside I like a local writer's take on why they aren't going: "Obviously, the Michigan marching band is simply too slow to play against an SEC team. Have u seen the speed of Alabama's tuba players?!?!?"

Even if they don't (which I'm sure they do) Michigan is getting 4.7 million for the game. Pony up the freaking money Dave.

No worries. I read it and was wondering if Dave had a cousin or relative in charge of the band.

That you do. My brother and a lot of my dad's family are ND fans (Irish Catholics from Philly) and that damn fight song torments them. Not to mention your band plays it more than Vols play Rocky Top...which I didn't think was humanly possible.
