Michigan trying to claim Denard broke QB rushing record...

  • Shouldn't be upheld. He needed 85 yards in today's game to beat Pat White's NCAA record, but he got most of his yards as a RUNNING BACK. Devin Gardner started the day at QB.

What say you? Can a running back break a QB's rushing record?

No... he didn't. It doesn't make any sense. Did Adrian Peterson break the all time QB rushing record this year?

  • If you wanna go through and see which plays he took at QB and which plays at RB, go ahead. But pretty sure the NCAA said earlier that if he's listed as a QB on the depth chart (he is) it'll count.

And it will be bullshit. He didn't take the snap. He was a running back. Pat White took every single snap while at WVU. He was a QB when he broke the record.

Denard did in three seasons what Pat White needed four to do. You're splitting hairs to say a small number of snaps were at RB. The vast majority were at QB and he played QB in every game even if some snaps post-injury were at RB or WR.

He did go back and forth between QB and RB the past few games, but still was listed as a QB on the roster chart.

How? If he didn't take the snap, how is he a QB?

If Denard goes out wide for a play, he is a WR on that play. That is the position he is playing. He did not break the record because he was playing RB.

Then you are going to have to redo the NCAA record books because they are littered with stats in which players line up at multiple positions.

No it shouldnt count MM. Well if you consider the actual position he was lined up at.

  • Why would you put him on the DC as a QB but then... not start him at QB?

So they can claim all his yards a rushing yards as a qb as opposed to a rb. Which would have negated his rushing record.

  • Oh well. With the way Meyer is running Braxton Miller I'm sure he'll pass Denard before he's gone.

We steal your coaches and your records.

It's too bad that we couldn't give RR back right away.

  • Records don't mean much these days anyway. They now count conference championship games and bowl games, which they did not do 10-15 years ago. Just like comparing rushing records in the nfl when Jim Brown only played 14 game seasons.

  • No seriously, why would you do that? Is there not some rule about adhering to your DC to a degree?

Was he listed as the starter? I'm not trying to be an ass. I honestly don't know.

  • Sorry, Mountie, but I think you're nitpicking here.

To me, there's some ambiguity nowadays in what "position" a player plays. If a TE rarely blocks but consistently spreads out wide and runs routes, is he actually a WR? If an OLB in a 3-4 plays most of the time with his hand in the dirt, is he a DE? Is Ga Tech's QB actually a RB because of how often he runs the ball (designed runs)? Is a wildcat QB actually just a RB?

He played QB nearly the entire time at Michigan, and if he's listed as a QB (and I'm betting he would be the 2nd string QB if Gardner got hurt), then he's a QB.

  • RBs or WR accumulate passing yards when they throw a pass? They aren't quarterbacks. They are still considered a running back or wideout. Dennard has been a QB for four years. Never had an official position switch. Is what it is..

After you saw what the NCAA did for them during the game today with the coin flip and that fourth down call, and the NCAA allowing them to use victories against high school and club teams in the 1800's for their "all time" record, you don't think they're going to allow DR to keep the QB record? You funny.

Denard Robinson: 2-6 vs. MSU, OSU. Zero Conference titles, 1-3 in bowl games. Let the kid have the record, what else does he have.
