  • I'm intrigued by this but how is Microsoft going to address the virus issues that are in its software? This tablet looks to be a major challenge to Apple.

To be fair, that's Apple's whole selling point with the iPhone. It takes work to truly customize it, we're all familiar with jailbreaking. But Apple really has targeted people that don't do things like that, at least that's how I view their business model. It's been simple, sleek, and out of the box for years now. That's their thing. Android is all about the customization and that works for them, too. I just have a hard time using that aspect as a comparison between the brands.

Most of what you get through jailbreaking is useless IMO... I mean, I won't say I didn't theme and skin my iOS, but it was more for the under-the-hood aspects.

I don't think that is the customization people are talking about...

It's more about the overclocking, custom themes, tweaks to improve performance, or even upgrading or changing the OS.

It really boils down to there being two types of people in this world. Those that love to customize their stuff (Android) and those that love to just use something right out of the box (Apple).

There are exceptions. I'm a customizer but I love my iPhone, so...

Well, you can use the Android out of the box as well, but it's much much better to customize it.

I love my custom ROM and upgraded kernel, crushes the stock ones.

Obviously you can, but the point is Apple markets the "out of the box" functionality while Android phone makers market the "make it your own" functionality. I'd say it's working swimmingly for both groups.

Definitely, and there will always be a market for both.

And that is a good thing. As long as forum goers argue which one is better, we(the customer) are winning. If one or the other would take over the industry the phones would go to crap because there is no competition.

Now, Android/Google > iPhone. I've had both, and that is my opinion. I also hope the iPhone keeps getting better because I want Google to keep getting better.

Yep, as long as they don't join forces to screw the consumer out, they both can only get better.

  • IMO, the battle between Microsoft/Google and Apple as of late is the purest proof that capitalism does in fact work extremely well when it's allowed to (and when it's in the interest of the consumer).
