Looks like the superstar (Carmelo) wins out again in the player vs coach rifts. Of course,it's a lot easier to fire the coach then fire the player that you owe 85 million too.

Good move for both parties, D'Antoni couldn't run the team how he wanted.

There's a limit to Coach D'Antoni's style. I saw him his whole time in Phoenix.

It is exciting and less wear and tear on the veterans, but the best he could hope for is the conference finals. The system is way too reliant on jump shooting.

I don't feel sorry for him, but I didn't think the Knicks would be this bad during his tenure in NY. They were awful before and after Melo, but Melo exacerbated D'Antoni's exit.

He will no doubt find another NBA gig, but his style would be more useful in the college game imo.

D'Antoni's GM capabilities are suspect. In order to keep the players he wanted, he signed guys like Marcus Banks, Boris Diaw, and Leandro Barbosa to absurd contracts. That group that was traded for Melo was good, but the Knicks would have eventually overpaid for them just to stay in D'Antoni's system. The Knicks are now better off without him.
