Mike Slive is skeered to play up north

Nice stereo type. It's like me saying SEC fans are all fat, ugly, toothless, uneducated hicks.

You don't think Lucas Oil has big corporate suites smart guy? I guess that is why the Super Bowl was there. Same with Ford Field.

Also I don't think everyone cares that much about the Rose Bowl, I mean it's great. Rather play for a Natty though.

True Indy and Detroit would be great. East Lansing and Wisconsin? Not so much. Yalls commish has been saying he wants to keep the Rose Bowl as is and that is a hold up.

  • Is it really that hard for them to decide this? Why can't they just do it like the NFL and have the 2 high seeds play home games and then have the Championship in a warm climate city that will attract the population/$$$?

Last time B1G faced a SEC neutral-site for BCSC they got their sh$t pushed in. Going to a cold weather city in Jan is like playing in the south in Sept.

  • Why do home playoff games work in the NFL yet the NCAA is opposed to it?

    Answer? Follow the money trail

MSU isn't a very good football program.. takes year of consistent winning to get to that level. - copemoney 1/22/13

Because Slive is skeered. He's the hold up.

Delany and Scott said the Rose bowl connection won't stop any playoff plan.

    IMO, Delaney is a dumbass.

  • Who wants to watch a game in 30 degree weather with possible snow? That stuff determines the outcome of games. The preferred place to play is at a neutral site in a dome. No advantages for either team.

  • I can't even think of many if any SEC cities that could handle the media and corporate side that the plus one would bring. Also the NFL plays home games bc there located in big cities with 5+ miilion people that have tens of thousands of hotel rooms.

I'm fine with a dome game, I just think the venues should be rotated to all parts of the country.

But I don't understand why you think 30 degree weather with snow is all that bad. I mean I hate the cold, but 3 hours in a blizzard football game can be a ton of fun. I've been to some ruthless games at Ralph Wilson Stadium, and frankly I'd rather be in somewhat cold temperatures than 100 degree weather with sun.

Bundle up, drink, and cheer you won't feel a thing.

    Some good sites.

Georgia Dome, Saints stadium, Chargers stadium, Jerry World, Lucas Oil, Ford Field, LA stadium in the future. All indoors or in warm areas, in big cities that can host events.

Sure it can be fun but it's not conducive to deciding who the better team is. Weather should never decide the outcome of a game of any importance if you want to determine which team is truly the best.

And playing in 90 degree weather determines the same thing. You don't think the Gators practicing in the heat gives them an advantage over northern teams when it comes to playing in Florida bowl games?

    It works both ways.

Even if it's only in domes, there are domes in the Northern states that are suitable for these types of events and should be utilized.

  • 4 reasons to have playoff games at neutral sites:
    1. Stadium size: some stadiums are too small to host such an important event--hello TCU, Oregon, OKST, Boise St!
    2. Local infrastructure: again, some college towns are just too small to host such an enormous event that will generate enormous amounts of revenue for the local businesses. In fact, most college towns are too small.
    3. Stadium location: players don't want to play in an ice bowl, and fans don't want to attend a game in freezing weather--this is a platitude which has support from all of the major existing bowls.
    4. Current conference championship games are played at neutral sites and no fans from the higher ranked team complain that they're losing their *competitive advantage*; as are all of the games in the NCAA basketball tourney, etc.

I wasn't talki about 90 degree weather being fair either. Most bowl games are played in Dec-Jan and its 65-70, not 90. Florida is not Equador. so that's seems a lot more fair. Also, I have no problem with Dome's up north. That would be fine. The reason Alabama/Michigan decided on Jerry's world was to hit the Texas market. That could pay off in numerous ways.

Agreed, give us both exposure (not that you guys need it, us either to an extent) to that Texas talent.

I am down for dome games up north, I just think these games can't always be in New Orleans, Atlanta etc. It gives some teams homefield essentially in a "neutral site" game.

Home field advantage isn't that big of a deal in neutral site games. See Alabama's raping of LSU in NOLA for exhibit A. :)

It also has a butt load of southerners. Plus travelling from Bama to ATL is easier than say Wiscy to ATL.

Rotating Neutral Sites makes the most sense.

  • I could see one game landing in Lucas or Ford but warm weather city will win out. One bad snow storm and everyting is fvd from a logistics stand point. 5 of the Top 15 busiest airports and number of hotel rooms are in southern cites. Chicago and Detriot are also on that list but who wants to spend their time in those places? Chicago is a cool place but where would they play the game.

Lol hardly. Northern cities are used to dealing with heavy snow storms, they slow traffic and that is about it. Dallas had frigging no snow for the SB, and chit was shut down.

talkig about travel into the city...bad snow storm means no flights in or out. This is still a business and people coming from outside the midwest will spend more money on the trip.

Doesn't matter for a home semi game. Local fans will sell it out regardless.

another reason why it won't happen if they don't agree on neutral-site games. I say give the entire playoff to Jerry's world and call it a day. Best stadium, huge media market, enough hotel rooms and 4 major airports for travelers.
