I've lived in Alabama and Mississippi for 34 years and have never met anyone involved in the KKK or even knew of any clan activity (meetings etc). It's quite humorous that the rest of the country thinks it's still like the 60's here but the fact is whites and blacks live among each other (same communities/neighborhoods) in much higher numbers than much of the rest of the country.

I think it's humorous that people from outside the true south are the one calling MS racist. You honestly think people in MS are openly racist??? We have the largest percentage population of African Americans per capita than anywhere else in the country (17%). You will get your f@cking face beat in. Yes There is still an older generation that has ties. But for the majority, it's just like everywhere else.
POLL question!
How many of you grew up in a town (not in a city), that is 28% African American and went to high school that was 34% African American?ejb5212

They're ignorant. They just need someone to hate. I spent most of my life in Alabama and never once seen a Klansman. Saw Nation of Islam plenty of times in downtown Birmingham.

Nation of Islam- Religious group
KKK-SECRET Society.
When's the last time you saw someone with a button saying "Ask me about the KKK" or a t-shirt that says "I'm from the hood" with a KKK hood on the shirt? They're there just not in plain sight like the Nation of Angry Black Men aka Nation of Islam is.

1) You mad bro. 2) You slipped in the sentence "You will get your f@cking face beat in." with no contextual significance and seemingly only for shits and giggles so thank you for that. 3) My HS was was nearly 65% black and your 'I'm not racist because I have to go to HS with black people' is inherently racist. 4) Still enjoyed the read, +1 for the lulz.

Seriously, it's not like a large black population prevented Ole Miss students from conducting racist demonstrations after the presidential election.
Merely living in an area with other races doesn't automatically make someone less/not racist. In fact, it's often the other way around.

People from Maine are less likely to be racist then people from the South. Most racism stems from fear and the illusion that your own race is being threatened, things Maine would never deal with. Also, the negative stereotypes that racists cling to to make a group of people an outlier wouldn't exist either, people in Maine can't make fun of spinning rims and fried chicken if it's not presented to them.
