  • From what I have read it is getting solid reviews. I really have not interest in seeing it.

    Aussie

  • Really?

I read the book a few years ago and almost lost it when I heard they were making a movie.

From what I have heard is don't go in expecting to hear the real story.

    Aussie

  • Yeah, that's pretty much the case every time a book is converted to a movie. But a movie giving props to Bill James? Sign me up. I'm not even asking anyone to go, heading straight to the theater myself to geek it out.

  • First baseball movie I'm actually excited about. JC saw it today, you should ask him.

  • Not worth creating a new thread but wanted to mention that I'm actually working on a Moneyball-Sabermetrics like formula to assess high school RBs due to the fact that analysis of RB recruit rankings over the past 7-8 years have yielded very poor returns in terms of projecting RB success at the college and NFL Level based on the number of top 10 RBs and top 10 All-Purpose RBs for each year from 2002-2008 [per another site].

To 247Sports.....I'd like to issue an open challenge to compare your end of year 2013 RB rankings to what my formula projects and then comparing those results at the 3 year, 5 year, 10 year, and 15 year intervals after the players graduate high school as the final interval in 15 years (2028) would put most players at age 33 and it should provide sufficient data to conclude the better predictor of RB success. I'm going to post a similar message on other recruiting sites in terms of the open challenge.

We can do it for fun or I'm open to a wager of up to a Current Present Value of 100,000 USD. Your organization has staff all over the country so there is no reason you shouldn't be able to outperform my Sabermetrics/MoneyBall like formula that I will be using. If you are open to the idea, we can establish parameters (ie. number of replacement players in the event of serious injury, etc that may impact a player moving forward).

Just an interesting idea I've developed based on high level regressions and company financial performance projections that we're discussing in my Grad Program that I've adapted to assess high school RBs.

My time will be scare on this site for the next 10 months until I complete school & pass the CPA & CMA Exams......but then again, our rankings don't have to be finalized until say mid January 2013 prior to signing day.

PERHAPS I'm a little overconfident right now being that I just made a 150/150 on a 2 hour Accounting Exam on this past Tuesday Night. Nah....I know football player assessment much better than I know Accounting.

Tell people what they want to hear, they will like you. Tell them the actual truth...they may not.

  • I liked it alot. but most girls say that it is slow and a little boring. But as a huge fan especially of baseball I loved it and thought it was a phenomenal movie.

  • Good movie imo. If you read the book, then prepare to be dissapointed I guess.

Every movie I've ever seen that was based on a book I had already read was dissapointing to me...

  • I read the book and thought it was great, read "The extra 2%" if you haven't yet it's very similar to Moneyball but it is about the Rays instead. Haven't seen the movie but might pick it up this weekend, heard it isn't anything like the book. Also Jonah Hill is Paul Depodesta with 5 fat suits on.
