More FSU/Clemson smoke.

  • Florida and south Carolina really do not have that big of an advantage in recruiting over Florida state and Clemson.

Sure they do. Doesn't mean they have better classes or anything like that, but if Clemson and FSU were in the SEC, Florida and South Carolina would lose the selling point of kids that want to play in the SEC against those schools. Didn't say it worked in their favor all the time, but it is a selling point for them over the other school in question for some recruits.

That's why those 4 schools got together against FSU, Clemson, Louisville, and GaTech.

Don't be naive. Being in the SEC is one of the most often cited reasons recruits give for choosing South Carolina.

Typically we don't butt heads with Clemson over instate recruits that much. They are usually Carolina/Clemson/Out of State. But for kids in North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, etc., it can be a big deal.

Also, there is the current financial disparity that we are starting to see the benefits of. We are really stepping it up on the facilities side and our athletics department is starting to surpass Clemson as a whole.

Keep in mind that the conference money was close to even until a few years ago. It's just now turning into an advantage and unless something changes the gap will widen as time passes. USC is going through a huge building phase right now, and the conference money is helping make it happen.

Think about this from the SEC's standpoint. Adding FSU & CU doesn't do anything with TV markets and eliminates an advantage current members have over instate rivals. If I'm the SEC I'm hoping those two go to the Big12. It destabilizes the ACC opening the door for the SEC to go after a NC and VA school. Those are huge television markets.

  • Yes... UNC is the white whale. VA tech would be cool as well... but they would be the defacto champion every year if FSU left.

But what good is a football championship in an ACC that doesn't include Clemson/FSU and pays out $50-100 less over a decade? The SEC schools will just build better and better facilities and raid NC and VA. Hell, 6 of the top 10 players in NC signed with SEC schools last year.

  • Yes, yes, and more yes.

Please make an offer B12 guys. I will personally picket outside wherever they meet with a sign about leaving the ACC for the B12.

  • As an outsider I don't know why FSU and Clemson would want to go to the BIG 12. They are clearly the two best recuriting teams in the ACC and look poised to dominate the conferece in the comming years. The ACC may be Tobacco road in Basketball but I think they realize football is reliant on FSU, Clemson and they hope Miami.

UNC owns this. It's why we got out 40 years ago and they still control everything.

People talk about Texas in the Big 12, but i dont think people understand just how much Tobacco Road rules the ACC.

The only thing that makes sense to me about this is that the ACC and B12 clearly are vying to be the fourth major football conference and the B12 has to feel a bit shaky with only 10 teams and the knowledge that UT could decide to go independent or even jump to the P12 at some point in the future. If I were the remaining members in the B12, I would be actively looking for at least two more true football schools as members. That does not mean this is a move FSU or Clemson would make, but it would not surprise me to learn they've been approached.

The Big 12 is vying for 4th? lol

    It must be:

    1. SEC
    2. SEC
    3. SEC
    4. Big 12
    5. Big 10
    6. PAC 12

  • I would consider this if I'm FSU and Clemson. Expansion is all about football and if done correctly to add revenues. The ACC strategy did not really accomplish that. If Texas is committed to being a good conference member then I see that conference as stronger and better in football.

  • If you want proof that the SEC is a strong conference look no farther than their 2 recent additions. Both chosen precisely because they were mediocre in football, but not embarrassing.

Your are an idiot. The Big 12 is the first or second strongest football conference whether they have 9 members or 14.

In terms of football and TV markets it would be difficult to find a better duo to pick up than FSU and Clemson for the B12. The distance is a bit of a factor but overcomable. But outside of the SEC (Who apparently isnt going to take us) the B12 is probably the best of the big time conferences location wise.

Considering the ACC is a sh*t hole, both the current B12 members and FSU/Clemson stand to make a considerable amount of $ more than they are currently with the addition.

I also like the idea of FSU/Texas match ups and FSU/Oklahoma re-matches. I hated that OU beat us but both FSU/OU games had absolutely electric atmospheres and were big big draws.

The ACC should of taken West Virginia. That would of been a stronger pull then either Pitt or Syracuse. If I was a football power in that conference I would be pissed.

  • Since the inception of the BCS,

Nebraska, Colorado, Texas A&M, Missouri = 3 BCS Bowls

Florida State, Clemson, West Virginia, TCU = 12 BCS Bowls

The Big 12 is upgrading Big Time.

If the conferences were already realigned at the start of the BCS those numbers would be way different.
