  • They will probably add a school, and then boot PSU after this 12-13 season. But ban them from the B1GCG even though they would never get there in the first place.

I could see them making an announcement saying they will be looking to expand, around beginning of the season, have a school picked by week 4, and then announce it, along with booting PSU after the season has been finished, insert school with PSU's schedule. Boom done.

At first I wasn't on board with kicking out PSU, but after this weekend, I think it needs to be done. They did this to themselves, and they aren't bringing anything meaningful to the conference anymore. Sucks for the students, but there other 11 schools have to look out for themselves as well.

    My wishlist goes:
    1. Va Tech
    2. Pitt
    3. Rutgers
    4. Tech
    5. Any random school other than ND, they wont bring anything to the table anyway. Other than being annoying.

You still have a hockey problem with those teams. And don't think it is insignificant... the B1G wouldn't have turned the college hockey world upside down if it wasn't for a good reason ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$).

Well, if that's the case, they could add Miami (OH) for hockey only shrug

Why would they join for hockey only? And since when has the B1G ever considered partial members. Sounds very Big East-like.

College Hockey is a different animal. How would it be any different than when it was with the CCHA? Were they drew teams from a multitude of different conferences.

Because there was no Big Ten Hockey before. Now there is... meaning Miami would be a member. Why not just add 4 more schools then? Why haven't they done this before?

It's because they don't want partial memberships.

Maybe the Big Ten would only expel PSU football from the conference. shrug

Now I don't follow hockey, that much. But if I'm right, this matter shouldn't really pertain to hockey, as I think, not every B1G school even has a hockey program. Not unlike, football, basketball, etc.

These are different, never before had circumstances that the B1G has never had to go through. Don't think when they were implementing that they had any idea something like this would arise.

Nah, I think they need to either, keep PSU with all sports, are give them the boot. No middle ground here.

The issue is that you need 6 teams to form a conference for hockey. PSU is the 6th team. Now, the 5 other schools are left in a bad position without Penn State. They would be without a home for hockey.

And that's why I'm saying add a school like Miami (OH) for hockey, would work. Heck, they might even make Miami (OH) a full member as a replacement. While, the rest of the sports wouldn't really be on par with hockey. But they are an elite hockey school and that would make up for the deficiencies in other main sports, such as basketball and hockey.

I didn't want PSU to get booted a week ago, but if the sanctions are going to be as bad as it seems it will be, the B1G might have its hand forced here.

Why would a scholarship reduction and bowl ban make the B1G's hand be forced? The Big Ten talks about making decisions for not 5 years or 10 years, but for 100 years. This would be a 5 year hardship.

  • Honestly, it wouldn't be that hard for any potential new school to start a hockey program. Sounds like a non issue.

  • The problem the Big Ten will have is if there is a long post season ban. Remember, a "bowl ban" is more than that. It restricts teams from play in their conference championship tournament or game, depending on the sport. If PSU is given a long ban (5 or so years), that creates a divisional unbalance for quite a long time. That is certainly worth considering for the Delaney and the Big Ten leadership.

  • Apparently the B1G is announcing penalties for Penn State as well that are separate from the ones the NCAA is levying.
