The people who know him closely will tell you that it will most likely come down to ND and MSU. He likes U-M, but it's not part of him. With the MSU background he has, if he doesn't pick MSU, it will be Notre Dame. I'd bet A LOT on that.

What I said earlier in this thread still stands true.

FWIW It'll be a good ole' fashion ND-UM recruiting battle...

    Sorry Spartan Fans.

With Steven Elmer's feet and frame he is a perfect fit at Left Offensive Tackle. a.k.a. blind side.

This is a kid with a pro football future. He already has an NFL frame.

Here is one problem for the University of Michigan......Shane Morris is left-handed. That makes ROT his blind side. Where do you put Elmer? Is that a scenario you would want a coveted future NFL blind side Left Tackle learning in?

Watch Notre Dame this year. Their Offensive Tackles are in a 2 point stance 99% of the time. (only in goal-line do they put a hand down)

Brian Kelley uses 1 step drops, quick releases and cut blocking the Right DE(DPR). That is not a NFL proving ground.

Wisconsin and Michigan State provide a much better pro-style experience.

  • I said it before on a post and I'll say it again. Beat michigan and michigan state this season and young Mr. Elmer will definitely be playing and praying at Notre Dame du Lac.

  • No mention of the fact that Mark Dantonio is a devout Catholic? I could see how that could be glossed over...

Sure would hate to lose a Catholic kid like him to those other schools. Catholicism probably will be only one of many factors in his choice.

Coach Dantonio is a devout Catholic. That coupled with the proximty of MSU and the fact that he and his family are MSU fans bodes well for the G&W.

This is almost the exact same post I put up earlier, except laughing at Thunder8 for saying that MSU doesn't have a chance.

Folks, let's take a step back here. This is a kid who hasn't even played his JR year of HS football. It's going to be a long time before he commits anywhere, and our schools' offers are going to be the first among many. All this back and forth is really premature, and considering he hasn't been to one game this fall, or come close to announcing a leader, let's move on to talk about something else.

Like Coastal Carolina to the SEC.

    Or something like that.

Oh, and **** that racist dude on page 1. That type of **** doesn't need to be posted on here.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

    lol

Seriously, at this point all any of us know is the Elmer is a great prospect and is going to seriously consider UM, MSU, and ND (and likely Wisconsin). He'll be a great get for whoever gets him and it will suck to lose him for everyone else.

Rocky, I'm not sure what going to happen with Elmer but Thunder8 has been right multiple times in the past about our recruits.

This I did not know (I do check in on your recruiting thread, but not enough to know who Thunder8 is, let alone what his predictions have been), but my point remains that there's a ton of time to go and we're dealing with a 15/16 year old kid.

I will admit an interesting thing about this recruitment is that it's between 3 teams that all play each other. I think it goes without saying (but I'm going to say it anyways . . . cause . . . um, has anyone used this phrase and then NOT gone on to say something? I need to get some sleep) that the 2012 seasons of MSU-ND-UM and their games against each other could impact Elmer's recruitment greatly.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Yeah, Thunder8 has PM'd some of us info that eventually became true. I agree though Elmer's recruitment is just starting and should be interesting. Hopefully he decides to go to Michigan! biggrin

I find it hard to believe that anyone would have inside info that will tell us where the kid is going this early on in the process. I still think Thunder8 is full of it on this one. IMO Steve is the most reliable one, and I agree with him that from the sounds of it ND has the edge on this kid at this point. A lot can happen from now till next year.

Cool. That's your opinion I agree that's early in the process(see my earlier post). I never said Thunder8 was right about this one, I just stated he's been right in the past. As far as Elmer's recruitment your guess is as good as mine. Also Steve is a mod for a reason, I never said he wasn't right about Elmer.

  • thumbsupI love the banter, which is what makes 247 such a great site. Either way, the kid is an outstanding young man with a great family. He's going to make a very thought-out, intelligent decision. You can't go wrong with any of the schools, including Old Whiskey!

I hope he's Irish but it's all going to come down to his comfort level, the game day experience and the relationships that get built witihin each university.

    GOOD LUCK to ALL!!

    P.S. Thank you TD JESUS!!

  • Like many of you have said, you have to think his thirst for knowledge and his faith will lean him towards ND without even factoring in the football. He can get a world-class education at the most prestigous university in the country and he can get it for free as a football player. While we can say it will be close, I think we are a slam dunk for him based off of what I just read about his interests and passions.

  • He's a teenager and doesn't graduate for a couple more years. I'd say each team has a good chance. I won't go homer on this, but it seems like the UM, MSU, and ND fans are all claiming he's going to their school. We'll see.

  • i hope we get him, you love kids who bring so much off the field as well as on it. michigan could well win him. they have a number of programs, certainly at the graduate school level, that are consistently ranked higher than even ND's.......
