Yup. The most recent losses hurt the most and that one really hurt because we shot ourselves in the foot.

I was negative two years old, but I'd have to add losing the SEC title in 1972.

Auburn and Alabama both finished with 1 loss in conference play, with Auburn beating Alabama head-to-head. But Alabama played an extra conference game (vanderbilt) and finished 7-1 to our 6-1, taking the conference title by percentage points.

Just sucks because we finished 10-1 that year and an SEC title would have been nice.

fwiw, vandy wasn't the "extra" game. we'd played vandy every year since 1926 except 4 ('28, '43, '44, '52) and 20 consecutive years including '72.

uga was the "odd" game, having not played them since 65, or maybe uf who we'd only started playing 2 years earlier and was only the 5th game between the 2.

Bama mastered the pick and roll on that drive.

  • That should be a very easy one for Oregon fans. The National Championship. Pleasant tries to tackle Dyer on the final drive but Dyer ends up falling right on top of him, gets up and well the rest is history. Truly a haunting way to lose it. It was 19-19 at the time.

  • haven't seen it mentioned yet, but the 07 lsu game for bama was up there.

mid 4th and arenas returns a punt for a td to go up, place went nuts. thought that was game over.

nope, lsu ties it up on a long pass with about 3 min left. plenty of time to drive down for a fg, right? or at worst waste some clock and go to ot.

nope, jpw fumbles on ensuing drive inside the 10, lsu picks it up on the 2. scores on next play.

then we throw 4 incomplete passes in a row on final drive. sucked.

Think about it the other way around. lol

If you guys win, we can literally blame a ref for throwing a pick on Zac Etheridge.

It was a great game, and a weird one at that.

  • '89 Iron Bowl
    '08 SEC Championship vs Florida
    '94 SEC Championship vs Florida

The '94 season could have changed college football even if Bama had won and went on to win in the Sugar Bowl. That was the year Nebraska and Penn St finished undefeated that started the push for the BCS which came 4 years later. If you have had 3, we could have gotten to this 4 team playoff and skipped the BCS mess......maybe.

I would actually put the 05 LSU game above that one. Granted that AU smacked us in the mouth the following game but we were actually in the title discussion after 9 games and under Shula at that.

losing to msu in 96 (i believe)....

were number 1 and undefeated and lost to msu at the shoe, ended up runnin the table from there and beat arizona st in the rose bowl...would have got the natty if not for that loss...

You got 2 years combined together. In '98 we rolled up everybody but that one loss we gave way after a big lead to Nick Saban's MSU team. Played A&M in the Sugar Bowl.

The '96 team lost to Michigan. OSU was inside the 10 yrd line 3 times and kicked 3 FG's Shawn Spings slips to lead to the Michigan TD. Cooper lost that game. Went on to beat ASU in the Rose Bowl and helped Florida win Nation Title after they beat FSU in the Sugar Bowl. We finished 2nd in the polls.

  • 3-2 loss to auburn at the end of the croom era

The loss itself was the problem. It was the fact that even right when we got the safety, everyone in the stands already knew that croom couldnt manufacture a field goal and would continue running three times up the middle and punting hoping for field position. We all felt so helpless

Forgot about that play, but now that you mention it I remember it happening. I really can't disagree with that, but I know most Duck fans can't watch the Dyer play within cringing. In the past you guys took it.

  • Worst loss was 63-17 to CU under Holtz, but not most infuriating that would be 5 years ago to UT-K

Completely outplayed them but kept giving them chances. Comes down to last play of Game. UT-K kicker trying career long FG to send into overtime and misses....Carolina wins.... Nope, offensive pre-snap penalty that we cant decline. Step it back 5 yards and re-kick(now 7 yards longer than career best) Yep he hits it, goes to OT and we lose somehow.

  • Just about any non-conference game under Tubs. 02 and 03 USC, 03 GT, 05 GT, 07 USF at home, 07 Miss St....

But hardest to stomach was going undefeated in the SEC in 04 and being left out of the BCSCG, then seeing 1 and 2 loss teams from the SEC win it in following years.

  • A&M last year vs. Oklahoma State- (#7 vs #8 at home) we go in to halftime up by 17 points, only to give it away and lose (at home no less).

....so the next week we blow an 18 point half time lead over Arkansas and again lose.

We followed similar patterns in about 5 games last year where we blew double digit leads and ended up losing to teams that we should have beat.

It was easily the most frustrating season I've ever had as an A&M fan....and that's saying something.

Only pre-season top 5 team in CFB history to lose to a FCS school

Maneuver it any way you want, that's still going down as one of, if not, the biggest upset in CFB history
