Duffy broke the color barrier. Bear knew he had to do what Duffy was doing to win big HBO did a special on that and Duffy was one college coach to make the cover if time magazine for a reason. I don't know what criteria you want to use. Wins? Innovation? Culture shifting?
I mean...Michigan had black players in the 20s and 30s. So yeah, breaking the color barrier is more of a Southern thing.
I'd put these guys up there:
Yost - Best winning percentage of all time, doesn't ever get credit but created the hurry-up offense and did more for forward passing than anyone prior to Hal Mumme, 5 National Titles, hatred of Notre Dame led to a non-scheduling agreement, forcing them to do the East coast barnstorming thing that led to their prominence (so we not only taught Notre Dame how to play but made them what they are today
)
Woody - Crazy as hell but their entire state and program embodies his personality (for better and for worse, I should add)
Bear - Seems like he won some games and is relatively consensus.
John McKay - Most interesting college football coach I've ever read about. Dude was the king of quotes, non-Yogi Berra division. It's worth a google to read some of them.
I could throw a few others for John McKay but I tried to grab one from the North, South, and West. Maybe I'd switch Woody with an older Ive league coach from out East or Stagg.

All good choices. While northern schools did have black players in the 20's etc, Duffy recruited many during the heart of the civil rights movement. Not as tokens, but as students.
Neyland is a great choice too. Hard to pick four unless you're given criteria.

Honestly, I didn't think Bowden. Would replace Urbs with Bowden on my list. Woody stays.
