Figured I'd start a thread where we can always talk about recent flicks we've seen, movie trailers, stuff on Netflix, etc.

I'll post some new trailers to get this thing started. Here's the trailer for the remake of The Thing. The original was great, hope this is just as good.

banana wooohooo. I can't wait to see this. I loved the original but when watching it as I got older I realized how cheesy the special effects were. I cannot wait to see what they can do with this movie and CG.

  • Am I old if I saw the original "The Thing" in the movie theater back in 1982?

    Starring Kurt Russell?

  • Has anyone seen Tree of Life yet? Also, I watched Easy Rider for the first time a week or so ago and it's now one of my favorites.

I honestly don't think it's a great movie or anything but not sure how someone would give it a bad review... definitely a lot of time and thought went into it. I hate to see things like that get a bad review while cookie cutter comedies have people tripping over themselves to get in the door.

Just the way it is I guess

I liked it. I loved the cinematography, especially the segment with the dinosuars, etc. As for when the movie got to the kids growing up, I still liked it but I after seeing all the trippy parts I was kinda like screw the kids show more cool sh*t. I'm too buzzed to get into more detail about the meaning of the movie.

As for the reviews it's got an 85% on both Rotten Tomatoes and MetaCritic so maybe aussie has just been reading reviews from audiences and not from critics cause it's been talked about as film of the year by some people.

I agree with you 100%... the life cycle stuff was really cool... and all of the space scenes were awesome. The family life parts were pretty slow and dull. I can see why people would have gotten bored with that part of it. Definitely would have been nice if it focused more on the existential stuff.

It was a websites review but I don't remember which one. Their biggest complaint had to do with the story. They said it was a mess. I am sure I will watch it eventually either way.

The story is kind of a mess I agree. But done so on purpose. It's just told in a strange, reflective way. Like more of a symphony than a movie. Critics seem to love it for the most part but audience reviews haven't been near as kind. The movie wasn't meant to be made for everyone to enjoy. That's probably why I appreciate it so much.

It sounds like something that I would actually enjoy. Most people prefer movies where they hold your hand with the strory telling. I like a complicated story that is difficult to follow.

I just watched this the other day. I guess the comics are really good. I am interested to see how this one turns out.

Comics? The first John Carter story was written in 1912, not exactly a comicbook as we know them. More of a serial. But either way it looks like it's going to be bad.

I was just going off of this article but I misread it. I guess there was comic adaptation in the 70's. I am not familiar with these stories at all.

You know all those old book covers with half naked girls being attacked by aliens and a guy with a sword protecting her? That's what these are.

I love that artwork. It'd be cool if the movie was animated like that.

  • I started watching Heath Ledger's last film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Fell asleep about 25 minutes in, but not b/c it was boring or anything. With Ledger, Jude Law, Johnny Depp, and Colin Farrell it can't be that bad
