One thing that bothered me was when the ship crashed and was rolling like a wheel.

Why didn't they run to the side to get away from it? slap

I said the same damn thing. It was just obvious.

That's an interesting thought on the Engineer being the beginning of all life on earth. How would you explain us having the exact same DNA sequence over millions of years? Odds are not good on that one, but I could buy it.

True about the evolution of the Xenomorphs, really good point there

Did not see the significance of the worms, good point. That would also explain why those two scientist were outright killed and not impregnated.

While I agree the the odds of an exact DNA match after millions of years of evolution is a stretch (and honestly why for me it would have been more believable if it had been a 98-99% match) I believe that was the intent of the opening scene. Life on Earth was supposed to have started in the water with single cell organisms and evolved, but where did the first single cell come from? Maybe the repeated trips to Earth (as seen in all the drawings and pictographs) were the Engineers checking on the progress of their experiment and tweaking things to keep it going in the direction that they wanted it to go?

  • Why would people post Prometheus spoilers in a general movie thread? IMO a specific Prometheus thread would've been more well-suited.

    Dredd Exclusive Trailer Debut [HD]

Dredd Exclusive Trailer Debut [HD] Director: Pete Travis Release: 9/21/2012 Studio: Lionsgate Website: http://dreddthemovie.com/ Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/dreddthemovie Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/LionsgateMovies The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called "Judges" who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge -- a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of "Slo-Mo" experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed. During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan's inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound's control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival. Could be good but goes against my idea of when proper movies are released. The best movies are usually saved for holiday seasons(Christmas, Thanksgiving and summer time). Probably because the general public has more time off. The others that don't test as well are released sporadically throughout the year. Wait a sec maybe I read that somewhere. Hell I can't remember. Could be my idea too.

That's generally true for the big budget/big director movies but this type of movie would just never be a success going against the summer blockbusters. Releasing it in September gives it a better shot at making money.

That's not to say any movie released after summer and before Christmas will automatically suck, it's more of a tactical approach to maximize profit.

As for the trailer it looks entertaining but I think I'm more interested in Total Recall.

I agree it's a tactical approach partly because the movie released in September didn't test as well as a movie being released around the beginning of summer. Can't remember the last movie I saw in September or February that was any good. Maybe a foreign flick. I've been kinda disappointed so far this summer. Watched both the avengers and Prometheus and thought they were both good but just wasn't blown away. Hopefully batman and spiderman deliver. I really wanted to watch cabin in the woods but couldn't ever get a babysitter.

I thought as far as summer movies go both Avengers and Prometheus were really strong. Better than anything that came out last summer.

Can't argue that. I honestly can't remember any movie releases from last summer or actually going to the movies last year. Might be because I had newborn in the house.

  • Watching Insomia for the first time in a long time. Very underrated movie. Going through all of Nolan's stuff leading up to TDKR.
