A post i made about liking Lazuli (page 178), BlueRanger

I guess when you edit double posts it edits both. FAIL on my part.

I haven't gotten around to listening to the whole album, but Lazuli is really freaking good track.

Not sure if you are into this type of music, but I think this album is going to be one of the bests for 2012.

Sub Pop Records : Beach House : Bloom

??Bloom?? is the fourth full-length album by Baltimore-based Beach House. It builds on 2010s ??Teen Dream?? to further develop their distinctive sound yet stands apart as a new piece of work. ??Bloom?? is meant to be experienced as an ALBUM, a singular, unified vision of the world. Though not stripped down, the many layers of ??Bloom?? are uncomplicated and meticulously constructed to ensure there is no waste. ??Bloom?? was recorded in 2011 at Sonic Ranch Studios in Tornillo, TX and mixed at Electric Lady in NYC. The band co-produced the record with Chris Coady. **If you pre-order ??Bloom?? from us, you'll receive a bonus poster featuring artwork from Beach House's Victoria Legrand. More limted-edition information that we feel you should know: The Loser Edition, colored vinyl version of ??Bloom?? is white vinyl. Act quickly to ensure proper obtainment--these are on a first come first served basis and will definitely sell out!**

  • So much fail lately with the double posts.

If I'm looking into getting into vinyls what should I look for in a player? Are there any ones that you would recommend?

Not really my type of music but maybe something my fiancee would enjoy. Although it sounds like something I wouldn't mind in the background. Not something you'll find me laying on floor, eyes closed listening to intensely though. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Not sure if these would be must haves for your own tastes, but I have been picking up a bunch of vinyls lately and a few of my favorites have been:

Marvin Gaye - What's Goin On
George Harrison - All Things Must Pass
Anything by the Black Keys sounds good on vinyl
and I just picked up a Sigur Ros vinyl on record store day that sounds amazing... I do like them, but not a huge fan... but this vinyl sounds great.

I don't really know all the differences, but I have a Technics and it works great. It's probably from the late 70's. Depends if you want to go new or vintage I guess. I kind of want to buy a new one, but the nice ones are too expensive.

I went with a Audio Technica AT-LP60 which is probably the best "bang for your buck" turntable at about $70-90 depending on where you buy it.

Thanks man. What's Going On was on my list, but the others I'll be on the lookout for. Ended up finding a record store near me on Record Store Day, and renewed my liking of vinyl.

What did you end up getting? I went trying to get the Flaming Lips thing that came out but didn't get one. I got a Sigur Ros, Grateful Dead that is limited to like 4000 copies, and a Jimi Hendrix 45.

that reminds me of another one that I play a lot... Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsies. It comes on a cool clear red vinyl too

Ended up with Mahavishnu Orchestra "The Inner Mounting Flame" and "Birds of Fire". And I went to see if I could snag a copy of Phish's "Junta" but to no avail as only 5000 were released and I went later in the day. Stupid me.

I like Audio Technica products since I have their headphones. I'll have to take a look into everything.

What kind of setup do you guys in general?

    Full Music/Theater System:

    40" Samsung LCD HDTV 1080p.
    Pioneer VSK-521 receiver
    Pioneer SP-BS21-LR Bookshelf Speakers
    Pioneer SW-8 Subwoofer
    Audio Technica AT-LP60 turntable
    PS3

I still need to add Tower speakers and a center channel. I'm not a huge audiophile so this setup works for me and has been relatively cheap.

    A2Wolverines

  • Mine is pretty low key... i'm usually using headphones but I have a little Yamaha Piano Craft receiver and two bookshelf speakers with a yamaha sub. Not sure of models. The whole thing probably cost me $500 a couple of years ago.

Some day I want to get the whole surround sound deal

John Coltrane - A Love Supreme [Full Album]

Tracklist; Part 1: "Acknowledgement" Part 2: "Resolution" Part 3: "Pursuance" Part 4: "Psalm" "A Love Supreme" is a studio album recorded by John Coltrane's quartet in December 1964 and released by Impulse! Records in February 1965. It is generally considered to be among Coltrane's greatest works, as it melded the hard bop sensibilities of his early career with the free jazz style he adopted later. The quartet recorded the album in one session on December 9, 1964, at the Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. Coltrane's home in Dix Hills, Long Island, has been suggested as the site of inspiration for A Love Supreme.

Did you read the piece about how Wayne Coyne from The Flaming Lips called out Arcade Fire for essentially be assholes to the people around them, other bands, their own crew members, etc. Saying how they treat people like their better than them.

From a few years ago right, yeah heard that. I haven't heard any one else make those same type of remarks so who knows what is true. Even so I am sure there are quite a few artist I like that I probably wouldn't like personally.
