    I'm sure you saw the Pearl Jam documentary. I just heard Bill Simmons say on his podcast that he really enjoyed it being a huge PJ fan.

    He also mentioned that he thinks that because of EV's ideology that it held the band back from it being as good as it could have been. I think he said that EV decided to keep some songs off of CDs because he thought they would become too popular because the song was that good.

    I know you said that some of your favorite PJ songs are those left off of CDs. What are your thoughts on the notion that EV might have held the band back because he didn't want to become popular?

    Cold.....when I mean hang out I mean in the warm weather and not in 3 layers of clothing like this Saturday tailgating will be. It will be in the mid 30s tailgating for Cincinnati/WVU this weekend. If we get too cold we can always have the WVU fans burn us some couches.

    Did I mention that I hate you Florida people that can have a good stick and drink outside with a media player most of the year.

    I actually mentioned it in the thread about 10 pages back. One of the most popular songs ever of PJs was Better Man and that was almost forced upon them. They didn't want it on the album. I think that it hurt their legacy as a really popular band, but I also look at the other bands of the time like Soundgarden and Alice and Chains and they continued to make their music for many years.

    So....I guess my quick answer would be that I think they could have sold more albums and been more popular, but I don't know if they would have the loyal following they have today and I don't know if they would still be making music like they are today. To many their sound is probably the same, but I have seen huge changes and then back and then Eddie doing a ukulele album. If they continued to make the popular stuff I don't think that continues.

    I think more than the music off the albums was the fight with MTV on videos and the lawsuit with ticketmaster. I respect that they didn't want their music to be thought of as videos and instead wanted it to stand on its own. I think Black would have been one of the biggest songs of the decade with a video, but they didn't want to make one. Instead it did well, but MTV was such a large part of music then it held them back.
