I would think quaaludes would help that show be more enjoyable

I have been as critical as anyone about their latest album being boring so if you aren't into them I understand but most of their stuff is great.

The xx show was real good. Their live performance sounds great. The great songs were amazing and the boring songs sounded amazing but were still boring.

Jaime XX had a little drum solo at one point that was cool. For the most part the audience was good except when random idiots couldn't handle the quiet and had to "woooo" in the middle of songs.

Also, please no singing along when the venue is dead silent and people can hear you pitiful voice sing, thank you.

  • I didn't watch the grammys but watched some of the performances after. A couple of thoughts:

Frank Ocean was so disappointing, sounded off and judging by his song choice decided he didn't really feel like expanding his fanbase.
    Jack White killed it

Never heard of him before but that guy Miguel was pretty good (minus Wiz with him)

Really white dudes love some Mumford and sons (more of an observation I make at bars)

2013 has been a really good year so far compared to last year for me. Here are a few that I really like so far this year.

My Bloody Valentine - mbv (early album of the year contender)
    Unknown Mortal Orchestra - II
Steven Wilson - The Raven that Refused to Sing (and other stories)
    Christopher Owens - Lysandre
Foxygen - We are the 21st Century Ambassadors of... (forget the rest of the title)
Grouper - The Man Who Died in His Boat

Jack White was sick. I saw him at The Hangout last year (the lineup is being released some time this week by the way).Obviously the show was great but he has some blonde smokeshow playing the slide guitar right behind him.

I've been meaning to check out some Miguel ish for awhile, but after seeing him the other night I listened to the Kaleidoscope Dream album yesterday morning. It's really solid.

I've tried several times to get into Mumford & Sons but I just can't. The entire white race is obsessed with them & frankly I just don't get it.

The Levon Helm tribute was good too. I'm a homer being from Alabama, but the Shakes lead singer Brittany is amazing. Her voice isn't transcends femininity/masculinity. They're going to absolutely blow soon.

I don't think The XX would be the same without Jamie XX.

Not really an album, but this was one of my favorite things to come out in 2012. I have listened to the entire thing couple times now.

    Really starts at 3:30.

What is up with My Bloody Valentine? I was too young when "Loveless" came out and I understand that album has a cult following and was considered by some to be an album that was "ahead of its time." What do people mean by that?

Should I listen to Loveless before listening to mbv?

I missed My Bloody Valentine the first time around - started listening to them a few years ago... was too young to notice it before.

I never really got the cult following the other albums had, but definitely thought they were cool records.

I wasn't even all that excited about mbv when I heard about it, but wow.... awesome recording. I guess that's what happens when you marinate ideas for 20 years.

Finally wathced the Black Keys. Good performance. That was the Preservation Hall Jazz Band with them. I saw them open for My Morning Jacket a while back. They are fun to see live, they joind MMJ for the encore and did a killer cover of Move On Up by Curtis Mayfield.
