My take on the TR/MD debate....

  • A lot has been made of comparing the two starting RBs in the state of Alabama. Both are going to go for over 1000 yards and double digit TDs this season. Here is my breakdown of the two on an F to A+ scale.

    Richardson:

    Top End Speed: B+
    Strength: A+
    Lateral Quickness: B+
    Acceleration: B
    Balance: B+
    Vision: B+
    Hands: A
    Durability: A
    Patience: B
    Overall: A

    Dyer:

    Top End Speed: B
    Strength: A
    Lateral Quickness: B+
    Acceleration: A-
    Balance: A+
    Vision: B
    Hands: C
    Durability: B+
    Patience: B-
    Overall: B

I think Richardson plays behind a better line, and in an offense that fits his strengths, but he is better overall. TRich is bigger, stronger, and faster. The only area where Dyer is considerably better is balance. All of this said, I would take both. I would take TRich over Mike due to raw natural ability. Thoughts?

  • Seems pretty good to me. Although i think Trents patience is more of a B+ A-

Lebron James will never be as good as Michael Jordan, thus we should get rid of his nickname, "The King".

I think sometimes he doesn't wait long enough. Especially on stretches and tosses. He is just a count ahead of his blocks. That's the one thing Ingram was truly great at.

  • Agree on pretty much everything except balance. That was a pretty nice move on the 76 yard run last weekend.

I will admit Ingram was better than him at that but he was the best Alabama has ever had at reading blocks lol If you watch our early games i think he was waiting too long and now he is right on the money or sometimes a little ahead. so IMO he is right around the A- B+ mark. but to each his own

You probably know better than I. I stick by my assessment, but acknowledge that yours is backed up by more film watching.

So is Wilder the next Jones like I thought he was, or is he moving to LB eventually?

It will be jones without the 2 knee surgeries

    Knock on wood

Wilder looks very good and will only get better with time

To be honest he looks more like a ronnie brown early on, im sure that is who gran will at some point compare him too

Wilder would still make a great lb

But for all those who said putting him at rb was stupid.... Well sit tight cause the crow is cooking and should be served sooner than later

What made Ronnies great was his versatility. He could pound it, break the big one, catch it, throw it, and had patience/vision/balance. If Wilder can do all of that at his size....damn.

All of that except im not sold on breaking the big one

Im not set against it either though

Wilder is gonna a vital part of fsu moving foward

Freeman had a spring head start so that is why he is #1

Next year it will be the wild and free show with pender maybe jumping into the mix ( who in time will be the best of all 3 )

  • I agree that Richardson is an "A" but I think Dyer is about an "A-" as he was right behind Lattimore for the #1 RB in the 2013 NFL Draft. Now with Lattimore's injury, along with Knile Davis now likely being in the 2013 Draft [as opposed to the 2012 Draft due to his ankle injury]......Dyer may very well be the #1 RB selected in the 2013 NFL Draft.

If a RB goes in the 1st round of the NFL Draft [especially if he is the #1 RB selected] I think he has to be considered an "A-" back.

Jabrill Peppers...More I watch, the more I'm convinced he is the best player in the 2014 class. Barring injury, he will do special things.

    BamaBornDukie

  • I think Dyer is a B+ or A- at least. I agree that TR has looked better this year. They also have a better line than us. I don't know about the NFL draft are really don't like comparisons by using the NFL draft. Tom Brady was better than Jemarcus Russel in college and pros yet wasn't picked anywhere near the same as him. Same can be said about multiple people. Sometimes a person has a lot of what NFL wants but still didn't do much on the college level due to other reasons.

There you go being all objective and ish. You bring a lot to the board my man, keep it up.

As far as the OP, I agree on most points, but I'd give TR an "F" for strength, because he's farking strong like bull. I think there's no real comparison at this point. TR is elite, Michael Dyer is very good. He has a chance to be elite, as he is only a Soph, but he's not there yet. TR is a rare combination of speed, strength, and agility. McCarron has really helped his cause by checking down to him often, which I would do too if there was a thoroughbred horse waiting for the rock 3 yards from me.

  • I disagree on the top end speed...can't really tell much difference on TV ~ 40 times indicate that they are virtually the same (MD 4.4 TR 4.42) I would call that a tie from what I have seen. I say everything else makes sense to me.

    That's would fall under agility.

Trent made a HELLUVA move. Balance has more to do with your equilibrium being knocked off, but your ability to stay off the ground.

Agility is what he did. Your ability to change direction and accelerate quickly.

    TR is the better back.

I think Dyer is more explosive in the first ten yards... after that Trent is better.
