NBA draft discussion.....

  • because I like having a place I can post my thoughts and someone might actually, knowledgeably respond.

    My prediction slash/thoughts......

    1. NO --- Anthony Davis, duh. He and Meyers Leonard will board an defend like mad men. How many points and namely points in the clutch though?

    2. Char -- Harrison Barnes, they need immediate help and H.B. is most likely to come in and give them 16 and 6. He has high end potential as a scorer, maybe a 22ppg type in 2-3 years. GREAT kid too. Carolina brand helps their WOEFUL attendance

    3. Washington -- Andre Drummond, he has the talent of an inch taller, 20lbs heavier Amar'e. FREAK. Incredibly raw though and can not start as a rookie. He needs a foundation, wherever he goes they'll have to teach him how to work, practice, play, etc. But he's 6'11 270, has a 35in vertical. At best he's Dwight Howard, at worst he's Deandre Jordan. Unless he totally quits, then he's Eddie Curry.

    4. Cleveland -- Thomas Robinson, Jamison is a timeless stud it seems but for real they need a future PF. Robinson measured in at 6'9 in shoes which was enough, his stock is high. He'll be an animal for 10+ years. They should be tempted by Brad Beal though, that COULD give them the league's best backcourt in 3 years.

    5. Sacramento --- MKG, obviously an awesome value pick. They still need an actual PG but Tyreke, MKG and Cousins is an all Calipari crew of freakin ballers. GREAT core.

Rest is the same as NBA draft.net

This draft is going to bring some serious parity to the NBA. 2-3 of those worst five teams are going to turn around with the players they get.

    Thoughts?

  • Solid although I think there's a good chance Bradley Beal sneaks into the top 5 with obvious Eric Gordan comparisons and I don't think Charlotte goes the Harrison Barnes route he's solid but I think there's players with more upside on the board or they could possibly trade that pick either way this draft is going to be deep and talented can't wait.

If they could pull it off they'd be smart to trade it to Portland for #s 6 and 11. Charlotte needs as many picks as possible.

If they got Lilliard and Sullinger they'd be much improved. I think Sullinger is going to get down to 260 and prove some doubters wrong. He ends up averaging 18 and 10.

  • Lots of top prospects returning to school might have been the best thing to come out of the lockout because it has created an incredibly deep draft this year.

I don't see a true stud beyond AD, but lots of guys have high ceilings and the capability of reaching those levels. I don't know what all the teams need specifically or what they see in all the players so I won't make guesses on picks, but what you picked seems logical.

I am hearing good things about Beal though so I wouldn't be surprised if someone takes a chance with him.

    Sweetney - 6' 8" 262 7' 1" reach
    Sullinger - 6' 9" 268 7' 1.25" reach

Hes better than sweetney, I just dont like undersized fours who play below the rim. Ceiling is low. Will always struggle against length

Kevin Love destroys this argument and Sullinger is far more like Love than Sweetney ever was. Sweetney was a straight grinder. Sullinger can pick and pop.

Kevin Love is an outlier and incredible rebounder who just won the the 3 point shootout. For every Kevin Love, there are 10 guys who dont have an impact. Sullinger will play in the league and be a rotation guy as long as he stays in shape. I just dont him ever averaging 18 and 10. Those are really impressive numbers.

  • Sullinger, plays below the rim, but he is a smart player.

He's somewhere between Love and Blair, imo. That projects him being a solid player. If he proves that he can rebound/defend in the paint, he could possibly be the steal of the draft.

He has a soft touch, very smart/patient on offense, and can hit a free throw. Would be a great glue piece for a good # of teams.

Im in the minority probably, but I think Barnes, Beal and Rivers will be studs in 3-4 yrs.

Rivers mearsured in at 6-5 which shocked me. Should help his stock

  • He probably will be your typical locker room cancer for a couple yrs. But, I think if he matures he can be a good one.

    CRgator1

  • I think Barnes drops a bit, not a huge fan of his. Though I would like to see him go early so the Pistons have more options. Sullinger is another I hope goes early simply because I don't want the Pistons to take him. I think he will be a good scorer and decent rebounder but defensive liability.

When you watch youtube videos of him in high school cross over dribbling at mid court to break a kid's ankles then flying to the basket it really is special. If he turns the corner from a preparation standpoint he'll be amazing by the time he's 23. Might have a very Bynum-like career.

Hes one of the few guys in the draft who have superstar potential. The sixers are dying for a superstar, they are filled with solid to good players. Id give up iguodala and some other assets to get him.

  • Yeah, if he turns the corner I mentioned not even Anthony Davis could hang. Five years from now it could be Drummond putting up 24, 14, 3 a game while Davis averages 18, 10, 4

  • Cool thread and I like your top 5. I'll give it a whirl until I can no longer make intelligent guesses.

    1. Hornets- Anthony Davis: Yea, no brainer.

    2. Bobcats- Bradley Beal: This is only if they can't trade the pick because I dont believe anyone in the draft past AD can give them the kind of significant help they need. This team just needs some playmakers and I think they take the best one available plus Walker and Beal is a very solid and very young backcourt for the future. Beal makes the most sense to me because his game requires the least amount from the team around him to succeed.

    3. Washington- Michael Kidd-Gilchrist: My personal favorite player in the draft. The Wizards need winners to quote the great Mike Singletary and thats what you get from MKG. His game doesnt jump out at you by any means but he gives you everything intangibly you could ask from a player his age. Great defender and gives Wall a running mate in the open floor. Perfect fit.

    4. Cleveland- Harrison Barnes: They need help on the wings and the two best wing players are gone. Plus they were very high on him last year when he was considering coming out of school. Personally I'm not too high on Barnes as I think hes overrated and doesnt present much upside but he's certainly better than Anthony Parker.

    5. Sacramento- Thomas Robinson: I agree with the OP that this pick could definitely go PG but in my scenario Robinson falls to them and they'd better take him. Very high-character kid who'd fit very nicely next to Cousins who has the size to play center. He's a physical freak with tons of upside as his post game is still pretty raw lacks finesse but the shooting touch and IQ is there. This pick makes a lot of sense to me.

    6. Portland- Andre Drummond: I think this is a terrible pick, especially for Portland, but NBA scouts are in love with untapped potential. He's certainly got plenty of it but he needs a stable franchise and a patient coach who will actually teach him the game of basketball. They need a center badly and this kid's got ridiculous upside but for a team whose gone through what they have with Oden I wouldnt touch him. However if he's there at 6 they take him.

    7. Golden State- Terrence Jones: There's always a surprise pick in the top 10 and this is mine although his talent puts him in the top 10 without a doubt. This tweener nonsense is just that- nonsense. Kid's a baller and with his skill set and body any coach will find a spot for him. He can come in and play the 3 or 4 off the bench right away.

    8. Toronto- Dion Waiters: Struggled between him and Lamb but I think they go with Waiters for his versatility and toughness. A true combo guard a la Rodney Stuckey. He stepped up as the go to man on a stacked Syracuse squad and came through time after time.

    9. Detroit- John Henson: This pick definitely goes to a big to go alongside Monroe for the future. Sullinger is a serious possibility as well but I think Henson's defense, athleticism and upside is what makes Detroit pull the trigger on him.

    10. New Orleans- Kendall Marshall: This is a toss up for me between him and Lillard but I think they go for the true PG to throw lobs to AD for the next 5 years. Already have a serviceable combo guard like that in Jarret Jack.

    11. Portland- Damian Lillard: They very well could take him at 6 depending on what happens before that pick. In my scenario they fill their two most pressing needs, PG and C.

    12. Milwaukee- Jeremy Sullinger: The Bucks need big men in the worst way and they'll pick the best one available. Definitely Sullinger in this situation. I think an NBA S&C coach will slim him down justa bit and he'll be an all-star someday. Got an old-school feel for the game that cant be taught and his shooting touch is definitely there already so he'll be able to play pick and pop.

    13. Phoenix- Jeremy Lamb: I think the shitshow that was Uconn this year played into his drop of stock in my mind but he had a serious down year compared to his freshman campaign. Completely disappeared on the floor at times even though he was the best player. However the talent is unquestionable hes a deadly shooter, freakishly long and great athlete. Phoenix should get Aaron Brooks back this year and will have plenty of scoring from the backcourt once Nash leaves.

    14. Houston- Tyler Zeller: Only guys over 6'9" currently on the roster are Marcus Camby and Samuel Dalembert. They'll be delighted to take a true 7 footer with a sound offensive skill set and runs the floor.

    15. Philadelphia- Percy Jones III
    16. Houston- Terrence Ross
    17. Dallas- Meyers Leonard
    18. Minnesota- Austin Rivers
    19. Orlando- Arnett Moultrie
    20. Denver- Moe Harkless
    21. Boston- Royce White
    22. Boston- Fab Melo
    23. Atlanta- Quincy Miller
    24. Cleveland- Evan Fournier
    25. Memphis- Marquis Teague
    26. Indiana- Jeffrey Taylor
    27. Miami- Festus Ezeli
    28. OKC- Tony Wroten Jr
    29. Chicago- Tyshawn Taylor
    30. Golden State- Doron Lamb (HUGE STEAL!)

Just my take tell me what you guys think.

Yea I've seen him and youre absolutely right dude could legitimately have a Dwight Howard type body. His shoulders are massive and he's got ups too. After looking back he's the one guy I definitely have too low scouts are gonna love that kid. Had some character questions but his tools will help them overlook that.

I bet he ends up late lottery maybe even latter top 10. I like the kid from Iowa St but apparently he has serious anxiety issues. Hes afraid of flying i think

  • Hornets might take Austin Rivers at #10. Monty Williams has known Austin since he was a toddler, taught him a lot about the game growing up and played with Doc Rivers on 2 different teams and was coached under Doc.

There's a lot of stuff going around that we will take him at 10.. Unless Drummond or someone falls.. Anthony Davis/Eric Gordon/Austin Rivers wouldn't be to bad.

Probably convert Rivers to PG if we get him.

I want Lilliard though.. most underrated player in the draft bc he played for Weber State but his measurable and game are unreal.. Dude is a straight STUD.

Jarrett Jack (had a good year).. Greivas Vasquez.. (6'6'' PG, improving a ton)

Huge Royce White fan. Youre right about all the anxiety and honestly who knows how that will play out but the guy is massive. I watched some of the workouts at the combine and he was bullying guys in the post. And he's a great passer too the guy's got point forward written all over him.

I don't know if anyone else is but I'm very very high on Doron Lamb. He's deadly from long range and can play the point. Basically you know exactly the type of player youre getting with him. No real weaknesses other than he's not a great athlete and a perceived lack of size.
