Not sure how you could the playoffs have been terrible the last two years.

    Everything was predictable

That's a pretty narrow mindset. TV money is a big part of revenue stream, Pop knew full well what he was doing and chose to do it anyway. He should pay the consequences.

Plus Pop owes it to all fans to put on a show when he is on prime time. Could have sat these guys against the Wizards but he chose to make a point for some reason.

He's a douche who doesn't care about fans. It's going to cost him, IMO won't cost him enough. There were probably some people who saved up good money to go and watch the Spurs (Tim, Tony, and Manu) play the Heat and instead they got the red rocket and some euro guy I've never heard of. Not acceptable.

To what extent do you advocate allowing Stern to allocate playing time amongst each team's players?

What if those three guys played five mins each...would that have been enough? How about fifteen minutes each?

What if a player gets in foul trouble; should Stern have the authority to preclude that player from going to the bench?

What if in the closing minutes of a close game, D'Antoni elects to sit Howard because of his realtively sh*tty free throw %; should Stern have the right to countermand such a decision?

And how exactly--and when--should the commish be communicating his pt demands? Would you advocate that those demands be communicated in real time by Stern via microphone hook-up to an earpiece each coach would be mandated to wear???

How butthurt are you about this? Your team almost lost to them without their stars! How exactly does Popovich owe fans anything? He is payed to win championships first, not entertain you. If his players have been run ragged he can sit them if he wants.

Yeh a Miami fan butthurt about anything in the NBA is pretty rich.

  • I don't see why the fans should be upset about this. When I go to sports games it is to see the team that I support and not for a specific player. For example I bought tickets to Adrian Gonzalez's first game as a Dodger, but it was only rumored he would play. Many variables could have changed Don Mattingly's decision on whether he played or not, but that wouldn't have changed whether I enjoyed going to see the Dodgers or not.

Pop is paid to win championships for the Spurs. The Spurs fans at home games may contribute to his salary, but not those on the road. He can run his team how he wants. He doesn't owe you (a Heat fan), or me (a Laker fan), or anyone else anything. At the end of the day he answers to Spurs management, and if in the end he wins a championship the owners and management won't care at all.

Pop is paid to win championships. He has an obligation to his team to win. If resting them against the Heat is his decision than so be it.

Stern will set a terrible precedent by doing anything in this. He does not have the right to tell a team whom they can and cant sit.

Bingo. He is pretty much saying he can tell them who to play and when to play them

  • What's next... Is Stern going to fine the Lakers if they don't give Kobe enough minutes per game? Is he going to set starting lineups to make sure the stars see the floor instead of letting the coach do what he feels is right?

The Spurs are an old team. Very old. 4 games in 5 nights, and 6 road games for an old team is no joke. Especially when the game against Miami was a game where Miami was coming off of 5 days rest. The schedule was stupid, and Pop needed to sit his players. Good coaching move. That is why he has multiple championships. No rule was broken. Stern is just abusing his power once again.

  • The NBA needs an extreme overhaul. I honestly don't remember the last regular season game I watched despite being obsessed with Jordan and the NBA during most of the 90's.

Anybody that denies this is a moron, you can still find entertainment in it and that is fine I guess

But if you truly think something like, say..... Bowling on a tuesday night isn't more entertaining you are only lying to yourself

That's all well and good but Pop chose to sit his stars in a primtime matchup against Miami as opposed to Washington to stick it to the league. In doing so, he stuck it to the fans as well. He doesn't care of course.

Never seen a guy so blatantly disrespect every fan of the NBA, and I've never seen the fans so blatantly back a guy who just told you to go f yourselves basically.

Sure Stern has too heavy a hand, but it's better than a guy who is a pvssy as well. Stern sees that Pop was trying to send a message, and saw that Pop was taking a shit on fans and Stern isn't going to sit around and take it.

What rule did Pop break by resting his aging players during a tough road trip, and 4 games in 5 nights? Again, where does it stop? Will the Lakers get fined for not playing Kobe? I don't get it. Stern isn't the coach. Stern hasn't won multiple championships. Stern can only blame himself for the stupid ass schedule.

Agreed. NBA is embarrassingly bad. Fundamentals are a thing of the past. Now its just street ball.

Throwing games is a much frowned upon practice in sports, not sure if you have noticed.

He could have rested each guy different games, he could have rested them for a not nationally televised game, he could have just dealt with the schedule like every other coach, he could have done a lot of things. Instead he took a shit on the fans who bought tickets, a shit on the fans who wanted to watch a good game on TV, and a shit on the integrity of the game just to make a point.

Stern may be over stepping his bounds, but so did Pop. He didn't need to so blatantly disrespect the game, and the fans. But he chose to, and now he's going to pay the consequence.

They lost by 5 points, and were ahead very late in the game...

Throwing a game means putting your team in a situation that they can't possibly overcome.

The Heat played down to their competition and still came out victorious. Plus the outcome doesn't matter, it's the intent.

Funny no one actually has any defense of Pop when the actual questions come out.

Same crap every second "He has won titles he can do what he wants".

No he can't evidently, because he's getting punished and rightfully so.

  • I don't see NFL teams sitting all their good players early in September on Thursday nights even though the schedule is stupid.

Goodell wouldn't stand for it, and there likely aren't any coaches who would be so blatantly disrespectful to the fans as Pop was.

Where is the punishment? If Stern actually punishes a coach for doing what is best for his team, you will see a huge backlash by owners. Hell, it could very well start a war between Stern and the coaches/owners. Coaches everywhere will just start sitting their players to make a point that it is their team, and they will do what is best in the long run.

Stern said he's going to hand out a punishment.

I'd love to see Pop refund all the individuals (not corporations) who bought tickets for last nights game.

You serious? NFL has 16 games in the regular season. NFL teams don't play 4 games in 5 nights and on the road, and 6 straight road games total. NFL coaches sit their players every year late in the season. Have you ever seen punishment for that? No, because the coaches do what is best for the team.

NFL teams do it after they have clinched. The Spurs haven't clinched anything.

Also 2 NFL games in 5 games is much tougher than 4 basketball games in 5 days.
