To what extent do you advocate allowing Stern to allocate playing time amongst each team's players?

What if those three guys played five mins each...would that have been enough? How about fifteen minutes each?

What if a player gets in foul trouble; should Stern have the authority to preclude that player from going to the bench?

What if in the closing minutes of a close game, D'Antoni elects to sit Howard because of his realtively sh*tty free throw %; should Stern have the right to countermand such a decision?

And how exactly--and when--should the commish be communicating his pt demands? Would you advocate that those demands be communicated in real time by Stern via microphone hook-up to an earpiece each coach would be mandated to wear???

You should try your best to win each game unless it has no true implications on your season anymore.

He rested his players(old players) because of the road game stretch. It has implications on the rest of the season, because he doesn't want to ride those old guys into the ground with a meaningless game in November. The Spurs almost won last night, and that was without their 3 best players. Pop was coaching his ass off, and almost pulled off the victory. Meanwhile, his 3 best players that badly needed a rest got a rest. He is a great coach, and its decisions like that that make him a great coach.

  • Stern is already facing backlash over his comments. This is not going to end well for Stern.

  • The thing that drives me the most crazy, is how fast paced the game is today

It leads to unbelievably sloppy play, and when retards ( 88% of the NBA players ) do things at a fast pace, well chaos isn't far behind

Slow it down and play some basketball, its not a race to see who can dunk the fastest

It is faster paced but still not as high scoring as it was in the 80's. Fundamentals are dead in the NBA. Guy rely way to much on their athleticism.

He could have sat them in different games. And Pop's team isn't winning shit this year, so it won't make a difference who he sat when he sat them.

$250,000 fine to the Spurs. I like the fine, but it should have been Pop paying it, not the organization.

That is my point, its so fast paced that its disgusting to watch

Back then they could still score fast, but they settled down and played basketball ( or used Fundamentals )

Now its just out of control drives to the basket and quick shots with nobody ready to rebound

Nobody follows their shots, its just awfulness

Your questions are irrelevant. They don't include throwing games and intentionally trying to stick it to the league for scheduling they didn't like.

I'll make equal comparisons to yours. Point shaving is illegal, Pop essentially was point shaving by tossing in the towel, he should be arrested IMO.

Don't ask stupid questions, just to prove a stupid point.

Pop threw the game, took a shit on integrity of the game, and most important of all took a shit on all the fans.

They lost by 5, and was in the lead late in the game. How did he throw in the towel?

He didn't field his best team possible and it wasn't due to injury.

Funny everyone (probably including you guys) was going nuts about replacement refs ruining the integrity of the league, but the Spurs intentionally fielding a shitty roster isn't ruining the integrity?

And again the result isn't what matters, it's the intent. If I try and kill you, doesn't matter if I don't kill you, I still attempted murder. Popovich tried to throw the game and did.

Popovich is too good to throw games. He wouldn't throw a game if you paid him. His 3 best players are OLD. They were on a 4 game in 5 day stretch. 6 straight road games. Teams rest their players. Especially when you are as old as the Spurs are. Its not hard to understand. Can't wait for the backlash toward Stern.

Holy shit. How hard is it to understand he rested them against Miami on prime time TV to prove a point?

He didn't have to sit them all at 1 time, he didn't have to sit them on prime time TV against Miami. He did it to stick it to Stern and he is paying the price.

What don't you understand about this?

You seem to act like Pop was just resting his players for a competitive reason, he did it to send a message as well. Don't be so naive.

  • Why rest them against the Heat, though? Why not rest them against some team that sucks.

Because he was clearly trying to prove a point. If he was trying to win as many games as possible he would have sat his players against winless teams like the Wiz, not against the best team in the league at home against Miami.

People are willfully ignoring Popovich's misdeed because they love to hate on Stern.

  • You realize he sat all 3 together last year multiple times. He even would put in the injury reports stuff along the lines of:
    Tim Duncan - OLD

    Where were you complaining then?

Also without his 3 stars the Spurs still almost beat the Heat and IIRC led with 30 seconds left. That is throwing the game?

And a reason he did it against the Heat is that they happened to be at the end of this road trip. By sending them home the players also got to rest and not have to travel today, so he essentially got them an extra day of rest by timing the rest when he did as opposed to one day and still having to travel if he picked a team at a different time.

Again result isn't what matters, it's the intent.

And grat, the travelling was tough, just like it is for other teams. Still haven't seen any other team sit their 4 best players including a 25 year old to rest. Pop chose to make a mockery of the game like a true douche bag.

  • The NBA is a terrible. The regular season is pointless, you know going into a season only a handful of teams even have a chance at a championship. The league is way too concerned about fan-experience and putting on a show and not nearly concerned enough about the quality of the basketball being played. I wish I was able to experience the old NBA (I'm only 23) where games were cheap, exciting, and played in old uncomfortable arenas with fans packed in like sardines. The NBA definitely sold out. I'd take a college game over an NBA game any day of the week. Especially those mid-major conference tournaments in the beginning of March. Those games are a million times more exciting than the junk you'll find in the NBA.

Good for Popovich. He shouldn't care about ratings, he should care about winning. The NBA has no right to tell him he cannot sit guys during one particular game instead of another. Stern is dumb for even trying to enforce BS like that. It's just going to make the league look even more rigged. It's turning into professional wrestling.

Yeah its been one blunder after another

2 lockouts inside of 15 years

The league got extremely young, and its not a good thing..... for every Derrick Rose or Lebron, there is another 20 who are broke and on the streets right now trying to figure out what happened

The NBA was obviously fixed in the early 2000's and really got knows how long afterwards or even before, there is no telling

I could go on for days, its just a terribly run league and has been for most of its time if not all of it

The Bird/Magic era and then Jordan's masked it for awhile, but afterwards it went right back to the toilet and quickly

Lebron has already proven he isn't that kind of star cause lots of america hates him, and its cause there is nothing classy about him.... he is just some kid that really loves himself and only young idiots can relate to his lack of education and overall ignorance/faggotry ( I swear 90% of Lebron fans are under the age of 27 )

Stern trying to tell these coaches how to run their teams. What a joke

True, but Lebron defines everything that is wrong with basketball in this country

Jordan and many others did not, they represented everything that is right in sports..... hard work!

Lebron is the shinning image of the NBA, young, not educated, and already had 3 kids at 21 ( the number that probably grows )

From high school to college and on to the NBA, all 3 are the most corrupt sports in america

And the NBA has become a joke because of this, anybody that doesn't understand this is retarded or young like Mrider here, cause he is just too young to realize he missed a whole portion of time on this planet and is too ignorant to admit that he doesn't see what all of us saw or know about this league
