NCAA has no business in the Penn State affair

  • Horrible precedent for those politically based idiots to be able to decide something without investigation into an area which clearly in not in their wheelhouse. Purely political.........period.

Finally someone who gets it. These were acts against humanity that the justice system will take care of. To make this a football issue is an insult. It's much bigger than that.

  • Agree. Not that PSU doesn't probably deserve everything coming it's way, but this is a dangerous precedent. Don't like it one bit.

Schools who try to gain a competitive advantage on the playing field. Who is being punished if sanctions are put on penn state?

Hate to agree and no it isn't fair to the fans or the players, but their administration did cover up for a chlild molester for 14 years for the sake of the football program and winning................

Exactly. The administration covered up child rape to save face for PSU. That is the definition of LOIC. Early in development I agreed with the OP, but as more info was released it was obvious they did it to save PSU football, thus making it LOIC and an NCAA problem.

That doesn't help the fact that PSU went years and years while hiding something that would hurt their program. That in a way gave them an advantage because they should have been in trouble for most of that time. Its LOIC. Bottom line.

would a top recruit want to go where they rape boys? no

instead of purdue, they pick PSU out of ignorance.

That would be a pretty big assumption lol Are the people who are going to be punished by these sanctions guilty? No. So why punish them? What good comes out of that?

    Jack Passion

  • I think there is no question in regards to the failure of the school when it comes to these poor kids but I don't like the NCAA using this as an opportunity to expand its own power.... I just don't think the NCAA should be the one swinging the stick...

Were the people guilty for the USC/Bush fiasco gonna be punished by the sanctions? No. They still got punished.

Its the way it works. LOIC is LOIC, and PSU had a competitive advantage by hiding this because they would have been hammered.

This isn't hard to understand at all.

PSU put football ahead of justice and child safety, what ever they get won't be enough, IMO. Sorry, there is no punishment harsh enough for covering up child abuse for the sake of football, none. IMO, the President and AD should be in prison right next to Sandusky.

That's setting a precedent for higher ups to take control of their program. Not needed at PSU because the higher ups are being charged in a court of law.

    Jack Passion

  • No advantage was gained period. I don't care which way people try to say they did. This is just the NCAA though. We should all be used to it by now. They do what they want and don't give a crap.

You know what this is setting a precedent for???

DONT ESTABLISH A CULTURE WHERE FOOTBALL RULES ABOVE ALL ELSE AND COVER UP FOR A SERIAL CHILD RAPIST FOR DECADES OR ELSE YOU WILL GET REALLY BAD SANCTIONS

pretty damn important precedent if you ask me

Where are the cover up emails that they supposedly have? If they are so damning then dang it let everyone see them.

The coverup was done to protect the football program. The football program should be punished.

  • So you're saying the NCAA has no business governing one of it's member schools? Laughable! So you're saying the NCAA can't make it's own precedent? Laughable! SMU's Death Penalty was a new precedent at the time. The one, and only, Death Penalty ever handed out. Another new precedent is needed for such a despicable situation like this. And so what if the perpetrators are gone, how are you supposed to set an example then? Does Pete Carroll bolting USC mean that SC is not applicable for penalties? Absolutely not. Does Jim Tressel being fired mean Ohio State doesn't deserve further punishment for transgressions? Absolutely not. This is the worst scandal in collegiate history. Someone, something has to be punished. Penn St. has to be punished. If they're not, you're saying rape is okay. This is an entire universal scandal from the very top of the administration on down to the head FOOTBALL (football IS a sport you know, something the NCAA does look after) coach.

If the NCAA didn't do anything, many people would really be outraged. If the reports are true about Emmert's punishments, I applaud him and everyone who agrees with it. Let this be a lesson that something like this NEVER happens again.
