I agree. This has got to stop. Those are just wrong.

Should have bumble-beed the arms IMO.

I know it's for one game, but you don't think the whole imitating Oregon to attract recruits is a low point?

ND has been changing up uniforms way before Oregon ever started. It's only for the Shamrock series, one game a year where we travel to major cities and play in NFL stadiums or Yankee Stadium. Your mind is gonna be blown when we play in China.. I like the uni's not sold on the helmet..

Like I said on my board its just sad at the attempts made by Notre Dame to try to stay relevant in college football over the last few years .... but I really hope the athletic department takes it up a notch and make Kelly dress in full Leprechaun attire in the coming future.

Go Notre Dame ... you are our College Football Circus !!!!

If you mean stay relevant on the field I'll agree, but if you mean stay relevant in CFB completely disagree. ND doesn't have to try there. Think the recent BCS discussions for playoffs should have quieted that mob.

  • I love all this relevant/ irrelevant b.s. Everyone keeps talking about ND. There are weekly discussions about something ND. I think people need to really understand what they are saying before spouting out at the mouth. ND is always going to be around, and will always have a seat at the head of the cfb table. clover

Apparently the commishioners of the 5 conferences disagree with you.

  • It's obvious that these uniforms are being made solely to create attention. They're trying only to get people talking and get the media writing about them. The aesthetic appeal has nothing to do with it, in fact I think they're purposely making them uglier and uglier to draw as much attention as possible.

It's really pathetic that Notre Dame has stooped to this but what choice do they have I guess? They suck, gotta do something to stay relevant.

Adidas is purposefully designing uniforms that are ugly? Yeah that makes sense.

ND's AD along with the commishioners of the 5 major conferences designed the new playoff system. How is that for relevant? ND has close to 40k going to Ireland for a football game. The largest ever for a single-day sporting event. ND is still the only team in the country with their own network TV contract. Yeah, the uniform is an attempt to stay relevant.

I agree. All this boils down to is that Adidas is trying to be cool and they failed. It's as simple as that.

How can anyone take a look at that uniform or Maryland's uniforms and say, "yeah...yeah that looks good"? It's a PR stunt, plain and simple. They're going for shock value...that's the only reasonable explanation for those abominations.

As for relevance, Notre Dame doesn't have it on the field of play. Sure, they have a TV contract, an undeserved seat at the BCS table, and a lot of fans. So what? On the field they have been mostly irrelevant for about 25 years. Notre Dame is waaaayyyy down the list of cool schools to go to these days, plus they suck, so they have to do things like the "Shamrock Series", play in Ireland, and wear horrific looking uniforms to garner attention and attract recruits.

They're supposed to be the most historic, traditional, prestigious football program in America. They problem is they aren't anymore, haven't been for a long time, and stunts like this are moving them closer to the Maryland's of the world. I'm glad you're happy with being relevant OFF the field for no other reason than Notre Dame was good when your grandfather was a baby but your team sucks and has for a long time.

When are you guys going back to Nike?

I don't know if it is really the case or not, but when Michigan went to Adidas, it looked like the Maize got brighter on the jerseys. I think it looks a little darker (and better) on the old Nike's.

Everyone's unis looked better before they went with adidas. I wish ND was still outfitted by Champion.

Ah, I forgot that they were Champion. What's ND going to do next, go with Puma? Russell Athletic?

Under Armor is hit or miss, but I don't know why schools don't go with Nike. The stuff is just better, plain and simple.

ND played in Ireland in the mid 90s as well.

    national titles-

    LSU- 2
    Alabama- 3
    USC- 1 + 1 vacated
    Oklahoma- 1
    Notre Dame- 0

Theres the big difference. Notre Dame hasn't been close since 1993.

A shamrock on the helmet isn't this debacle. I don't get it, ND has tradition, it has it's own station, why do this to yourself? They don't need the attention.

All ND needs to do is win. Not go gimmick in order to do so.

  • So a team is only "relevant" if they have won a NC in the last how many years? USC's was taken away so they must not be relevant.
