NLA 7on7: The weekend's best

Two long hot days in Dallas for the NLA 7on7 national championship served as a setting for some terrific performances including the emergence of Jeremy Liggins.

I have been wanting Michigan to jump on Norfleet for awhile now. Do you see that as a possiblity, or is he looking elsewhere?

Michigan hasn't shown much interest at this point. I know that he has some work to do in the classroom and that could be one reason.

  • WHen Michigan loses recruits or doesnt compete, it is ALWAYS because of grades .
BTW Pittman is graduating early and will enroll early at MSU.

I think it's a fact that MSU can get kids into school easier than Michigan. Regarding Norfleet, he has a little work before the Spartans can accept him as well. I know he's working to get his ACT score up, and as Barton wrote in this report, he's someone that you want on your team that anyone could use. He loves playing the game and doesn't take a rep off.

Apparently you don't fully grasp the situation going on with Pittman, do research first before posting about things you do not know.

With Norfleet, I think UM would absolutely be pursuing him, but they already have similar players left over from RR.

Was this really necessary? There is a Michigan/MSU thread to troll in if you want, don't troll threads where the site analyst are involved.

Steve, if this is a fact, can you please explain the details? How is it that MSU allows student athletes in easier that Michigan? Are there different requirements? I'm curious to know if this is perception or reality.

From what I've seen and read (and I welcome someone to definitively answer this), MSU's classes over the last 2 years have had much higher GPAs than Michigan's classes. This seems to be one data point contrary to what you are saying.

Thanks in advance for the information.

  • Very happy to see Lawler on this list. I know he's an Arizona State commit - but I think we can snag him if he likes what he sees in the offense this coming season.

  • The only big ten school that is significantly different, as far as academic requirements for athletes, is North Western.

The idea that UofM is harder to get into for scholly athletes is a total myth. Hell, ask Harbough, UofM's first choice for a new coach.

Agree. The only tangible difference with UM that is pretty well documented is that it is very very hard to get JUCO's admitted.

That's my understanding as well. I was surprised to see Steve say otherwise.

  • I've heard from several recruits over the years that Michigan's admission requirements are a little tougher than Michigan State's. That doesn't mean that kids with lower GPAs go to Michigan State as a whole. Well-rounded kids end up at each school.

For example, everything I've heard regarding Aaron Burbridge is that he likely won't be able to get into Michigan but he could get into Michigan State if he continues to improve in the classroom.

Argh. Hope you're wrong on that one. Burbridge (if he can qualify), is an absolute must get for UM.

  • I decided to look into this a little more further. Obviously for football players, there is a different set of admission standards (at every school) and I've heard several times MSU is more lenient than Michigan.

  • The thing that really impressed me about Troy Williams was his timing and release. He's got a quick arm without any wasted motion and his timing was tremendous when I watched him. He was hitting guys in stride allowing the WR's to maximize after the catch, even in a 7-on setting. He threw the deep ball with nearly perfect trajectory and the throws were over the outside shoulder where only his guy could make a play on the ball.

    Very impressive performance.

Was talking to Barton. He could push for a spot in our next top-100. We'll see how it shakes out. We've seen a lot of great prospects this summer, and Barton and JC will see their fair share this week at The Opening in Oregon.

I encourage you to do a little more research. This is factually incorrect. Every school in the B10 (save Northwestern) have the same minimum requirements (the NCAA standard). A coaching staff can CHOOSE not to bring in a kid because perhaps they feel he will struggle remaining qualified once enrolled. But, speaking solely to "getting in", there is ABSOLUTELY no difference in the qualification standards.

Michigan has taken risks, and they have not worked out (see: Demar Dorsey). MSU has taken risks (see: Damon Knox) and they have qualified in time. It is up to the staff to properly research where a kid is short, and decide for themselves whether or not they believe he can make the adjustments necessary in time to enroll.

    Some other points:

    1) MSU's APR is 938, while U-M's is 928 (and the lowest among ALL Big Ten teams).

    2) MSU has not had an academic non-qualifier out of HS under Dantonio.
