It could be done. Like others have stated though, it would take a considerable amount of time before you rotated back to said team. It really doesn't matter to me either way. I'm just not a huge fan of major change.

Florida plays 8 conference games in '12. Which is what I said. Keep it like it's going to be in '12.

We played 8 conference games in '11 as well.

you can't keep it at 8 games, keep the lock, AND rotate 2 x-div opp.

you now have 6 div opp. (was 5 until mizzou and a&m were added).

plus 1 more for the lock, and that's 7 games set on the schedule every year.

now you either have 1 game/y to rotate, or you could go to 9 conf games and rotate 2. or drop the lock and rotate 2.

like i said before, this is an example:

    bama:

    yearly div opp:
    lsu
    a&m
    au
    arky
    om
    msu
tenn - the lock x-div opp

that's 7 sec games per year. leaving 1 game for the rest per year.

staying at 8 games (and keeping the lock) you got:

the east rotation for bama (keeping home/away rotation) (this is example, not real rotation)
    2012 - @ uf
    13 - uga
    14 - @uga
    15 - vandy
    16 - @ vandy
    17 - usc
    18 - @ usc
    19 - mizzou
    20 - @ mizzou
    21 - uk

that's finally when we'd play each one of the east teams at least once.

add a ninth game, and it goes:

    2012 - @uf, uga
    2013 - @uga, vandy
    2014 - @vandy, usc
    2015 - @ usc, mizzou
    2016 - @mizzou, uk

that's what a 9th game does for you.

    theharbinater

  • if you stay at 8 and drop the lock, it'd be:

    yearly div opp:
    lsu
    a&m
    au
    arky
    om
    msu

    the east rotation:
    2012 - @uf, uga
    2013 - @uga, vandy
    2014 - @vandy, usc
    2015 - @ usc, mizzou
    2016 - @mizzou, uk
    2017 - @uk, tenn

Well if they keep pace but teams can't stay on top forever like Florida/Tennessee. It used to be the east which was the hardest. It's all cyclical

What he's trying to say is you wouldn't have 1 permanent cross division and 2 rotating. You would have 1 permanent and 1 rotating since aTm and Mizzou are now here and they will be taking up one of the games. That is unless we went to a 9 game conference schedule.

Make sure UGA never plays LSU, Bama, or Arkansas again. Find a way to drop Florida off their schedule, too.

    Solved.

No doubt, they'll just play UK a second time in lieu of UF

Uga's new west permenent will be ole miss. Then they draw Miss st and a late season rematch with ole miss

  • Could they keep the locks for teams like BAMA and UTe, and rotate1 div opponent for them, and then teams like ARK who don’t have a cross div rival can rotate two div games? Also I remember when everybody thought the PAC 16 was going to blow off that the USC fans where talking about the pod system. How would that work exactly? Does that mean you would have a semifinal for the SEC CG? Seems like it would be easier just to have 2, 8 team divisions.

Technically, every team has a cross division rival and you would probably hear whining from some teams if that scenario went down

2 ways that i see it.

either get it ok'd to have a semi.

or pick (some way, bcs rank, record, etc.) the top 2 teams and have a single game.

but as for playing everyone in your conf (in a 16 team conf), the 4 div (i hate the "pod" term) setup is best.

    and i'd go like this:

    9 game conf schedule
    3 - div games
3 - 1 lock from each other div (to save rivalries)
3 - rotate the rest in each div.

it'd take 5 years to see each team, but that's as short as it can get. and you also protect rivalries.

so, as example, say this is the new sec (assuming we add from the nc, virginia, wv, etc., area).

    west:
    lsu
    a&m
    mizzou
    arky

    south:
    bama
    au
    msu
    om

    east:
    uf
    usc
    uga
    vandy

    north:
    ut
    uk
    team 1
    team 2

and bama's schedule would be something like:

    div - au, msu, om
    locks - ut, vandy, arky
rotate - uk, uga, a&m (or pick 1 more from each div except south)

If any conference was going to have a Semifinal, it would be SEC. Sucks that it always feels like the B1G is following everybody.

honestly, i wish we'd get the top dogs and just form a 64 team league.
4 16-team conf, set them up like i posted
have a semi then final for conf champs.
then the conf champs have another 4 team tourny for national champs.

have a 12 game schedule, and play 1 team from each other conf in the ooc games.

If that was ever announced, it would honestly be one of the best days of my life. On second thought though you could just pick the best two teams according to BCS standings, it would keep teams like UGA who probably didn’t deserve to be in the CCG, out of it. You could probably do this for a Semi too.

You'd be bitching too if you ran the table in your division, lost the division because of schedule difficulty, then the conference changed our schedule for the next season to remove the only other difficult opponent, and gave you another tough road game.

Have fun getting Mizzou's SEC cherry popped on you in September.

    1. I don't bitch
    2. Never validate bitching by saying someone else would bitch too
    3. What does it matter, going to the SECCG and losing is no different than not going at all. Do you want to be the best of the losers?
