Next year's top 5

  • You gotta believe that A&M is in it just with having Manziel back, no? shrug Guy is like a better version of Pat White.

Here's another question, Can he become the first ever to reach 25 throwing and 25 on the ground in a single season?

What about 30 through the air and 30 on the ground? (big reach, I know)

Bama's gotta be in there as well. FSU? Oh and we HAVE to include USC since they seem to be everybody's preseason blowhard.

  • But he plays in the SEC. No way he can dominate those defenses.

He did this year. He ended with 20 and 20 and the Heisman. I think he'll get better throwing the ball next year...

  • Is joekel and matthews coming back? Those two are huge keys to his success with being able to slow down the outside rush so he can step into the vacated rush lanes.

I'll do better. Here's my top 25. I did make this before most of the bowl season. I don't put too much stock in bowl games individually so I might not make too many changes until all of the 3rd year players have declared. I could take Florida down a spot or 2, UGA could drop a decent amount if Murray does declare. If Stanford doesn't lose some of their 3rd year guys, I could bump them up 4-5 spots or so and if Notre Dame falls on their face against Bama, I could drop them 5-7 spots or so. Probably going to stick with Oregon where they are regardless of the coaching situation at the moment.

    1) Bama
    2) Florida
    3) Ohio St
    4) Oregon

I kind of have them off the brain at the moment. They are filed in the same category that Notre Dame was 5 months ago or so.

They have to get better on defense first. The offense is ready to go though.

They just return so much. Surely the QB situation has to get better even though I know we were saying the same thing last season. Seriously though, even with the struggles, Texas was a few plays away from being 11-2 and they did beat a legit team in their bowl game in Oregon St.

If the coaching staff can finally dedicate themselves to pounding the ball and sticking to that gameplan, they could really be the team to beat in the Big 12, IMO. they were close this year, but any time they got down or things got tough, they went back to putting way to much pressure on average QBs. Mack has to learn that unlike about 2002-2009, the QB is not the best player on the team anymore!

At this point, I think Texas fans just don't want a 9 win season. Either a great year for Mack to go out on a good note or a bad year so that he finally steps down or gets canned.

Counter argument to that is that were also a few plays away from 6-6. We dont have the offensive line to pound the ball though. We do have speed at the skill positions to throw it all over the place but not the quarterback at the moment. Ash is progressing. He had a better sophomore year than he did as a freshman and I expect him to have a better junior campaign. He needs to not play as tentatively as he has and he has to learn to trust his reads and that his WRs will be open. He has the tools to be a good qb but its a process that quite honestly texas fans dont have the patience for. We got spoiled with VYs big play ability and colts cool headedness.

The pieces are there offensively. Espinosa our center has to get stronger because he keeps getting eaten alive by opposing DTs that are bigger than he is. We only lose goodwin and dj monroe and their biggest impact will probably be felt on Kickoff returns.

On defense losing Oakafor will hurt. A lot. Jeffcoat has to be able to get through an entire year healthy because theres a big dropoff after him. Reed and Wilson are servicable but nowhere near the talent that jeffcoat and oak were. I expect to see more shiro davis in pass rush situations next year.

Kenny is hard to replace as well. Our tackling issues are well documented and he might have been or best in the secondary. Im not sure I like Diggs replacing him as the nickel safety but i dont know who else could do it.

Next year will be interesting thats for sure.

I have us around 15. We return 20 of 22 starters and albeit the defense was bad, it was also VERY young. At one point late in the year, we 10 frosh running around the field defensively. I think we grow up a LITTLE, not a lot on that side of the ball, but I also have us finishing 9-3. We were 7-5 this year and 5 points from 9-3. I think offensively we'll avg about 38 a game (inflated with teams like Savannah st and FAU on schedule) and that can keep us in games.

All the trash is predominantly off the team and guys have bought in to Golden.

We get Florida at home early, so that will be the telling sign.

  • If A&Ms junior linemen come back then they will be up there for sure. Their oline doesnt get enough props.

  • Losing 2 top 10 tackles and a veteran center on offense will make Manziel have to take off quicker. He's a ridiculous talent, but being able to go through his progression twice before taking off is a luxury he won't have next year. Isn't Tamu also losing a 1st round DL?

If Sumlin recruits well for the next couple years, they'll just be able to reload, but I have a hard time believing they can just reload along both fronts at this stage in his tenure.

That said, I'm guessing 9ish wins. And I like Tamu. It's just my opinion.

I really love Golden. I think he will do there if he stays through all the penalties and stuff. Good situation for him honestly. Not a lot of pressure if he just stays patient.

Morris has a chance to be really good and if the defense can just be average, I could see 8 or 9 wins definitely.
