Nice pick up on Joe Bolden, Michigan

  • Some say he's the best ILB in the state of Ohio, and I know we were going after him as well. It's not often you beat out both Ohio State and Penn State for a Middle Linebacker.

    I look forward to Michigan regaining their status as an elite - it just didn't mean as much when you beat them the last couple of years. And getting guys like Joe Bolden is going to be the path. Guys that Rich Rodriguez couldn't get, or worse just ignored.

    We have offers out to Deontay McManus, James Ross, Deaysean Rippy, Joshua Perry (committed) and Derek David at LB.

    Edit: also some hybrids as purple_rein has pointed out.

    OSU just had 4 LBs in their 2011 class and only have 1 senior this year so LB is not a position of need.

    We have a commitment from OLB Josh Perry and are working hard on James Ross, who we will take no matter what. Rippy also has an offer, but that is unlikely to happen.

    Then there are the OLB/DE hybrids, where OSU is after Odenigbo, Washington, and Pittman.

    Ross is going to be a fun battle. We got Rob and Robinson from his Highschool the last 2 years, and he seems to really like us. He might be a Michigan lean though.

    Yes it looks like Ross is a Michigan lean right now. Both OSU and PSU have had success at OLSM in the past. Ross grew up a Buckeye fan, but his entire family are all Michigan and his classmate is going there as well.

    Ross's family is full of Michigan fans, his dad being the biggest. The problem Michigan and/or Ross may have is when he will make his decision. They have 3 LBs now and Ross is a luxury at this point, not a necessity. Depending on how the rest of the class pans out, he might not have a spot available.

    Unlikely. Even with the train wreck RR was running kids stayed committed. Only lost a couple after he was fired.

    one look at the depth chart, and another look on the sidelines, and of course Michigan is going to pull a good class...hell, they still had great classes (on paper) under Rich Rod....

    but this is what happens when you have 100+ offers out and its only April. again, im not saying michigan is going to lose all these guys, but i know that they are getting a lot in their ear about playing time, and the idea that 'michgian is back'....

    either way, good for you guys. it really doesnt scare me at all though. see you in the Fall.

    Take a look at the depth chart at LB, as well as the guys in the 2011 class, and tell me how that makes sense.

    You have to offer kids to get them to commit. It is not like they are getting bums. This is their third 4-star LB.

    You didn't say Michigan is going to lose all of them. You said A LOT. So how many is that exactly? With all their commitments being from Michigan and Ohio thus far, I am not concerned in them losing any. Local kids hardly ever decommit.

    My feeling is that he loves Penn State, and actually has a lot of respect for our coaches...he just wants to play. If McGloin beats him out this summer, then Rob won't start for Penn State until his senior year. I don't believe that's an acceptable situation for him, and I think he'd eather spend a RS year sitting out at another school, that would start him in hs RS Sophomore year.

    But yes, I think he'd make a good pitchman, simply because he can tell James that our coaches will be upfront with you. But that's just my opinion.

    Tough to lose your spot to a walk-on. Just ask Cullen Christian, Justin Turner, etc.

    Eh... Cullen Christian was one of the most overrated recruits of his class. No surprise there.
