I called this last year and think that it's going to eventually happen. Football is going to be banned. I hate to say it, but it's true. When you look at all the rule changes and the direction of our society (well-being of humans), it's only a matter of time before the greatest sport is banished forever.
I played high school football in 1988. The helmet has changed little if all to this point. When do they try and find a way to change the equipment on the head, rather than implement more rules to "protect" the players.
It's sad to see guys like OJ Brigance, Junior Seau and Wayne Chrebet... It's not going to change and they're going to eventually ban sports like this and hockey.
Our children will be into Basketball, Baseball and Soccer as the world dominated sports. Well, to be honest, they already are.....
Opinions?

I can answer 100% truthfully when I say I would with no hesitations. I have a bum right knee & terrible back problems.. Big deal. So what if I've had concussions, a few crooked fingers or a hatred for winter (or rainy days) due to my entire body aching... Worth it. It made me become a man. (gain confidence in my own abilities) It gave me a bond with people of a different race that I didn't know was possible. Going through life worried about the what-if's is pointless. Basically.... "I drive way too fast to be worried about my cholestoral".

Basketball builds that bond as well, not just football. Would you want your son to end up like Junior Seau? So why take that chance? You can't tell me that the same number of baseball players have ended up like football players in terms of tragedies....

This is an issue where I don't think it's going to come to a close. Look where boxing is right now. UFC has a major influence in that, but it was dying LONG before UFC came to town.
We are striving as a society to be less violent and albeit that the cash is huge (we all know this), I could see the government in the future outlawing football.
It's all about protecting people and if they can't come up with a way to do that, it will be banned MUCH SOONER than people would like to believe.
How many on here have a son? Would you let him play football? I for one would not. I suffer from sharp headaches that come on for no reason. I can go a day, a week and even 4 months with nothing and then out of nowhere, it's like an icepick is in the side of my head. I suffered multiple concussions in sports and my worst one was baseball as I got hit in the cheek with a fastball at about 93 mph. I've had mri's and catscans done, but they've come up empty. Who knows what lies in the future for me, but I would be dammed if I ever let my boy play football knowing the perils and possible tragedies.
It's gonna die out sooner than we think... It's sad, but true.

Most of this outcry is coming from the lawsuits, concussion research etc.. From what i understand 90% of kids that ever strap on a football helmet at a young age will never make it past the high school level. 90-95% of college football players will never see playing time in the NFL. I feel that these head injuries are accumilated over a players career hs,college and pros. So if you spend 15-20 years of your life playing football and getting paid millions to do it eventualy then you should play at your own risk and be aware of the conseqences and repercussions imo. I don't feel like the NFL should be liable for this.
