Football creates far too much cashflow for it to be ever be banned.

It's a pretty hot topic but I doubt it gets banned. Some states allow people to ride motorcycles without wearng helmets. It would be one thing if we were forced to play football but those participating(especially at the professional level) are doing so willingly. Certainly, there will be measures to make sure those hurt during their playing days are compensated appropriately. We still live in a society where we have choices and that will usualyl take precedent. Football is no danger to society but only those choosing to take part in the activity.

To be honest, the mistake was made to move away from leather helmets. Going back to leather helmets and small shouler pads would make the game safer but that's just my opinion. Putting hard helmets on guys runnign as fast as these guys run, turn the helmet into a weapon. The impact of being hit with a helmet, even while wearing one, is far greater than simply hitting heads but that is just my opinion. You would cerrtainly see guys not lowering their heads as much(offensively and defensively) if they were just wearing a leather helmet. Again, jsut my opinion.

They've been working on helmet technology for years, actually. And barring encasing the brain in styrofoam it's almost impossible to prevent most concussions.

Please, banning football isn't going to happen in our lifetimes, our children's lifetimes, their children's lifetimes, etc. The idea is preposterous. Too popular, too many dollars involved.

Basketball builds that bond as well, not just football. Would you want your son to end up like Junior Seau? So why take that chance? You can't tell me that the same number of baseball players have ended up like football players in terms of tragedies....

Yeah, this is really dumb dude. The state of boxing today has nothing to do with safety concerns.

if "they" are going to ban football and hockey, then they will have to ban boxing, lacrosse, baseball, every X-game sport, ski jumping and downhill, every motor sport, horseback riding, cycling, etc, etc.

Exactly how many players in the history of the NFL have had a concussions and how many ppl killed themselves? Junior took the ez way out he's a coward..

you would think that politicians have enough to worry about without sticking their nose into every aspect of our lives. there has always been an injury factor related to football. you play knowing what the risks are...that's the reason most professional football players make so much more money than an average person. we have a president now that seems to have an opinion on just about every damn thing. wish he would worry more about our economy, foreign policy, iran, healthcare, etc.. it's sad to say, but head injuries come with the territory. no one is making anybody play football. i love football and hope it never goes away. i feel badly for the early football players that did not understand the problem with head injuries.

Most of this outcry is coming from the lawsuits,concussion research etc.. From what i understand 90% of kids that ever strap on a football helmet at a young age will never make it past the high school level. 90-95% of college football players will never see playing time in the NFL. I feel that these head injuries are accumilated over a players career hs,college and pros. So if you spend 15-20 years of your life playing football and getting paid millions to do it eventualy then you should play at your own risk and be aware of the conseqences and repercussions imo. I don't feel like the NFL should be liable for this.

I think it's just a situation of people didn't KNOW this was a potential result of playing football for their whole lives and they just don't know how to handle it yet. It's not quite like boxing (and, by proxy, UCF/MMA/etc.) where we've known for a bit that getting punched in the face for years can lead to issues down the road; we knew football was a hard hitting game but we're just now seeing that there is a POTENTIAL effect for people and we're just trying to decide (a) what we think about that and (b) what we can do about it.

It's a lot like when it was found out that cigarettes were found to cause cancer IMO. For YEARS no one thought they were an issue, and then all of a sudden, BAM. We just have to have discussions about it is all. It will pass IMO.
