We're not in his place man. You can't say that EVERYBODY who commits suicide is a coward. How do we know how bad his nightmares were, sleep disorders, headaches, lack of emotions, loss of memory were???
I had a friend kill herself with a gun (one of my best friend's wife) and all we did was hug each, cry and said at least she now has the pain gone and hopefully she's at peace. I miss her to death and think about her almost every day.
I've seen some bad things man and you can't get certain things out of your head and regardless the help you seek, medication, etc... It's just overwhelming.

There's othe sports to play. Basketball, baseball, soccer, golf, tennis..... Sure in basketball, you can flip over somebody and get undercut and break your neck, but the day to day hitting with the shaking of your brain is the damage that's being done.

It's gotta be ASTRONOMICALLY higher in the NFL. Just numbers wise as a society. I mean the NFL by percentage of the population is absolutely tiny as opposed to the rest of the country....

Was cockfighting legal in the 1800's? I can list a ton of things that were legal that now are not. Eventually, the preventive measures will say, we can't guarantee your safety in football with longterm effects. Our medical system is already in complete disarray and the government will eventually put an end to any and all things that contribute to an enormous rise in taxpayers monies.

Doubt it Gomez. There have been a good number of people that played professional football over the years. Enough to give a good sample size. I guarantee you it's much higher for non-playing members of society.
Edit: just looked it up and suicide rate in NFL players is 6X the national average. Looks like I was wrong. You still suck Gomez.

I called this last year and think that it's going to eventually happen. Football is going to be banned. I hate to say it, but it's true. When you look at all the rule changes and the direction of our society (well-being of humans), it's only a matter of time before the greatest sport is banished forever.
I played high school football in 1988. The helmet has changed little if all to this point. When do they try and find a way to change the equipment on the head, rather than implement more rules to "protect" the players.
It's sad to see guys like OJ Brigance, Junior Seau and Wayne Chrebet... It's not going to change and they're going to eventually ban sports like this and hockey.
Our children will be into Basketball, Baseball and Soccer as the world dominated sports. Well, to be honest, they already are.....
Opinions?

Yes. If you stop him from playing because there is a remote chance he can seriously get hurt, you are a terrible father. You are basically telling your SON that it's OK to be a pussy. People will take advantage of him his entire life. I don't know how things work up North, but the benefits of playing football in the South FAR outway the negatives. When your son is home on Friday night at 17 instead of out with his girlfriend and friends, you will know why. Don't be apart of the pussification of America.

Here's how things work up north. We make more money than anybody else in the country and that's a fact. NY Times ran an article that said if you live in NYC and make 250,000 a year, you're considered middle class. So bringing up the South vs. North thing isn't too wise or you'll lose AGAIN.
btw, having your son not play a sport due to the dangers is not telling him he's soft, he's smart. I'd rather be Bill Gates than Bill Bates.
