Here's how things work up north. We make more money than anybody else in the country and that's a fact. NY Times ran an article that said if you live in NYC and make 250,000 a year, you're considered middle class. So bringing up the South vs. North thing isn't too wise or you'll lose AGAIN.

btw, having your son not play a sport due to the dangers is not telling him he's soft, he's smart. I'd rather be Bill Gates than Bill Bates.

Garbage men in NYC make like 80,000 grand. It's an expensive city to live in so that's not saying much. And here's a shocker.....you can make money in this country without being a pussy. I know, right? Merica!

And you should hold out hope he turns into Bill Gates. I mean, sooooo many kids do. When he's sitting around all Summer "safe" inside playing World of Warcraft getting hefty instead of slaying girls and busting his ass, you can tell yourself that. "Maybe he will be Bill Gates".

Here's another question: Are you going to let your son drive when he's 16? How about get in the car with his friends who are 16? Because that is a MUCH, much bigger risk.

I think you're wrong. You think the people in Denmark are stupid? Or better yet, less tough? LOL.. I use this example because I've lived in Aarhus and they are brilliant people and we can learn a lot from them.

Think with your head and not with your heart. Dude, I love football more than anybody, but it's beyond scary and if you don't feel for the people like OJ Brigance of the world, than you don't care for people period and that to me says a lot about you.

BS dude. Football also turns boys into men and teaches them how to work as a team.

How about the Tom Brady's? Do you feel for them too? Or how about the rest of the 99& of the NFL? Oops

Will you let your son be a dentist? Because, you know, they have the highest suicide rates of any occupation. Dangerous that dentistry profession. Dangerous.

  • coach gomez...i said there have always been injury threats. i remember a kicker from tcu that was paralized from the neck down in an alabama game at legion field in the early 70's. jack tatum almost killed a wide rec. that played with the new england patriots. i said i felt badly for the early football players that did not understand the problem with head injuries. the fact is there have been alot of players that have been injured badly playing football before the multiple concussions issue came to light. these to were life treatening and they still played!

Last time I checked Americans had go win their freedom back during WWII..... So, yes.

They helped more than you think. They surrendered to Hitler in four days and did not fight. They were spies for Churchill and helped win the war with very very few casualties. Smart people....

Exactly how many players in the history of the NFL have had a concussions and how many ppl killed themselves? Junior took the ez way out he's a coward..

    this

people get depressed and kill themselves for a variety or reasons and situations. football did not kill that man, however you want to spin your victim crap.

humans are not getting "less violent"...why dont you turn on the TV for a change or check out what's going on around you.

sure, there are good ideas and people are trying in some ways to be better people, but as a whole - the human race is the devil

all completely true! My point though is that the further this goes in depth with studies and what it relates to, the more and more likelihood that football will be banned. I mean, I'm the LAST person to want it to happen, but it could come to that if it is consistently linked to head trauma.

It's not about being tough, it's about being smart. LOL at the guy who thinks my son would grow up to be soft. My father was in construction and I dabble in it myself. Wait til the day when he's moving pavers in 98 degree heat in Jersey with 90 percent humidity and does that all day long. Football practices are a piece of cake compared to some of the work I've done. Sheetrock??? Shit, 200 boards up three flights of stairs in the summer is no picnic.

A sport doesn't make you tough, your experiences do.

Go run with the bulls and tell me if you're scared. LMAO!!!

  • Most of these cases are of guys who played into their mid 30s. Unless you play in the NFL, your chances for severe head trauma are pretty low.

Seems irresponsible to deprive your kid of high school football and the experiences that go along with it just on the minimal chance he might get hurt. As another poster pointed out, thinks like teenage driving are much more likely to hurt him.

I agree with the teenage driving, but hear me out on this. Look up the Purdue report and it's ASTONISHING. Even slight hits to the head on a daily basis is DIRECTLY related to head trauma and damage to the brain.

I think the best thing for a coach would be to ban the majority of contact drills in practice and show that report to moms of recruits they were trying to get. You don't think momma wants her baby protected???

You are not using your brain, my child. And the TV is exactly what's getting you all whipped into a frenzy. Football is about as American as hot dogs and laughing at Canada. It's not going to be banned. Not ever. You have a pretty decent analogy ITT. Cigarettes. Look, 'the government' can't even ban tobacco and sidearms. Not now, not ever. The anti-football lobby and groundswell of public outrage is really huge, btw... Lutz.

I called this last year and think that it's going to eventually happen. Football is going to be banned. I hate to say it, but it's true. When you look at all the rule changes and the direction of our society (well-being of humans), it's only a matter of time before the greatest sport is banished forever.

I played high school football in 1988. The helmet has changed little if all to this point. When do they try and find a way to change the equipment on the head, rather than implement more rules to "protect" the players.

It's sad to see guys like OJ Brigance, Junior Seau and Wayne Chrebet... It's not going to change and they're going to eventually ban sports like this and hockey.

Our children will be into Basketball, Baseball and Soccer as the world dominated sports. Well, to be honest, they already are.....

    Opinions?

This is by far the dumbest post I've ever read, and its not even close.
