Non Bama, AU, or Arky fans - Better coach Petrino or Chizik

    I am conducting a highly scientific study on who the college football world views as the superior head coach, Bobby Petrino or Gene Chizik. Your input would be appreciated.

    Not even close! You take away Scam Newton as well as Gus and Chiznik is nothing. Plus he gets 4 and 5-star recruits. Bobby takes 3-star recruits and has the Hogs as a top three team in the SEC along with Bama and LSwho.

    Petrino would recruit better at Auburn than Chizik does now IMO.

    This is the best recruiting any staff has done at Auburn and you think someone that hasn't shown anything like that can do better? Houston Nutt recruited better at Arkansas than Petrino does with all of Petrino's wins.

    He's only been here for three years... I also think it is probably a lot closer in number than you think that Chiz has in the NFL roster from Auburn.

    Not even close! You take away Ryan Mallett as well as Tyler Wilson and Petrino is nothing. Plus he never gets 4 and 5-star recruits. Bobby has the Hogs as a consistent distant three team in the SEC West and will never be better than Bama and LSwho.

    Pretty sure Chiz's Auburn recruits aren't even draft eligible yet.

    If you go position by position, Petrino's 3 stars are better than Chizik's 4 -5 stars. Im saying that just because you see 4 stars next to a players name that doesnt mean he's a superior player. Chizik has signed more highly rated guys but if you compare Petrino vs chiz over their entire careers there's no question which guy has recruited more NFL talent..There's no question which coach has won more games..So there's no question who the better coach is.

    Actually this is false.... Petrino has 7 players on an NFL roster from his time at Arkansas. Chizik has well over that in his 3 years at Auburn.

    I menat NFL type talent on the current team...But based on your post, Gene CHizik inherited more NFL talent than Petrino...I didnt realize that

    I think at this point Petrino is the better coach but he is not the better recruiter by any means.

    Any site that has Dan Mullen in the top five SEC coaches is just dumb and immediately destroys their credibility.

  • Chizik may the worst head coach to ever win a championship. He is nothing without Cam. I would take Petrino back when he was an assistant coach at Auburn and hire him over Gene today.

So he signed the biggest impact player of this century..But over his career, he's not even close to Petrino..Bobby is a proven program builder..Chiz might be great or he might be Larry Coker..Im leaning towards Larry at this point but the jury is still out..

    Petrino is probably going to rip him up a few more times before that rivalry is competitive again..

    There's no rivalry between Auburn and Arkansas. I said before and I'll say again. To this point Petrino is the better coach. Chizik is the better recruiter. Chizik will have a couple more years at least to prove himself.

  • It's hard to give chizik much respect as a defensive minded coach when his defenses have looked like they have! Even in the title season they couldn't stop people, just outscored them. You don't see petrinos offenses struggle or sabans defenses struggle.

    You get the point. Every coach on this list had players, elite players at that.

    Petrino wont have the same type players at Ark, as Gene at Auburn.

    So its Chiz by default. Saban didnt win a 'ship at MSU, Mack didnt win until VYoung came.Recruiting, especially in todays landscape, is the #1 priority outside of assistant coaches hirings.

    Underrated post, IMO.
