  • Oh, I love how every NCAA sanction thread turns into (every program besides USC here) didn't get hit hard enough because of what happened to USC.

    I never said USC did nothing wrong. I said the penalty was extremely excessive.

  • It's a slap on the wrist, but I don't even get what the university did wrong. It's not like the players and coaches are going to advertise that they're breaking rules.

    Plus, the rules are stupid.

    This is ridiculous. Having six players take money from an agent is much worse than having one player do it. Having an assistant coach being funneled money to steer said players to agent is much worse than an assistant coach that should've known about one player and an agent. Add academic fraud onto their whole debacle.

    The NCAA went into detail about how cooperative USC was in their report, so what gives? Why do we get twice as many scholarship reductions, twice the bowl ban, and forced to play with 75 players and have free agency for our juniors and seniors?

    OSU players traded their own stuff for tats and basically got the same punishment...the NCAA is a joke.

    That isn't why OSU was punished. They got punished for lying to the NCAA.

    That said I agree, UNC's infractions were MUCH worse than OSU's.

    NCAA seems to only care about their reputation when handing out punishments.

    I think Trojan fans have a right to be upset about the sanctions received by UNC. There just doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason with the sanctions doled out.

    1) DGB article that I assume you are refering to in no way implies impropiety.
    2) if NCAA looks at it and says Petrino was in the wrong, then so be it. THEY NO MORE OF WHATS GOING ON THAN WE DO!!!

    A case can be made that the UNC violations were every bit as egregious as SoCal's, and way more egregious than TOSU's.

    And because what they absolutely couldn't cover up looked bad enough by itself, and because they donned the guise of contrition, UNC got off light. The UNC situation just has that aroma that because those involved did a better job of keepin their mouths shut--or at least keepin their stories in line with one another--than SoCal or TOSU did, it seems like they were able to keep a lid on alot of ish that still is yet to be known...and may never be fully known.

    They dodged a HUGE bullet IMO, and I would be pissed too if I was a Trojan or a Buckeye.

  • Didn't OSU's coach lie to the NCAA and try to cover up what the players did wrong? Seems like a bad idea. Maybe you guys are right and they did nothing wrong and we did everything wrong. Glad you guys could clear it all up for me. Shame you were not there to set the NCAA straight and tell them exactly what you THINK we did wrong so the punishment would fit the crime.

  • i'll be really interested to see if the NCAA's investigation of PSU leads to anything. No real football infractions were committed other than the players getting away with a lot of "boys being boys" activities fights etc.. but there is a definite case for Lack of Institutional control in regards to the football program.

    Miami is going to get hammered. They are next in the timeline of major violators. I'm thinking closer to the USC Penalty than the UNC Penalty. But you never know the NCAA is crazy and they could get less.
