Northern Illinois confident?

  • Lots of talk coming out of the Huskies' camp. Personally, I feel sorry for the Orange Bowl folks. Sort of like the ACC selling its fledgling title game down the river for the all mighty Miami-FSU matchup (Jacksonville and Tampa were early locals), I think the OB did the same thing when it decided to go ACC vs. Big East and while they did manage to get the Miami-FSU rematch one year, there have been plenty of Virginia Tech vs. Cincinnati and Wake Forest vs. Louisville types of games.

This year, I agree with the comment in the article. It's a joke that NIU is in this game and received a bid. Are you telling me they could have beaten Oklahoma? Heck, are you telling me they could have beaten Boise State? No disrespect intended, but part of the reason the BCS has been such a failure is that they cater to the little guys. The Chick-fil-A and Cotton Bowls are better matchups than any of the non-title BCS games outside of the Fiesta...maybe.

  • Agreed. Also one thing I'd like to point out is that the "only two schools per conference" rule is dumb. You're telling me that UGA/FSU wouldn't be an awesome game? Ridiculous.

  • Disagree in general on most of this post, JC. I'll certainly agree that NIU didn't deserve to make it in this year, but in general I certainly don't think the BCS "caters to the little guy." The reason the BCS is a failure is because it's a farce.

Also don't think I'll ever have the capacity to feel sorry for any "bowl folks."

  • Good grief, their QB needs to keep his trap shut. He's right though, FSU hasn't seen an offense like that all year, all they have seen are ten times better.

I don't think that has been the problem with the bcs. The biggest problem is that the computers have picked the wrong team to play in the championship game 4 times.

2000- Picked FSU(lost badly) over miami even though fsu lost to miami
2001- Picked Nebraska(lost badly) over Oregon
2003- Picked Oklahoma(lost badly) over USC
2011- Picked Alabama(didn't even win their conference) over Oklahoma State

Only over the last few years has the big east gone to shit. West Virginia won three bcs games and I think Louisville won one. A lot of times the ''little guy'' has won their game. Boise State twice, Utah twice, and TCU once. The ACC has really been worse in bcs bowls than the ''little guys''' by far.

I quit feeling sorry for the bowls when I found out how rich the guys that ran these these "charitable" organizations were getting. How many perks they got. And how little money actually went to charities.

HBO's Real Sports opened my eyes.

Welcome to the team, saw that HBO sports segment a few years ago but actually knew about it even before

Its borderline amazing that they keep getting away with it despite HBO putting them all on blast

Some Bowls give almost zero back to the charities in place to receive that money

The part that killed me the most was that they only work around 2 weeks a year at some vacation spot and pull in hundreds of thousands a year in salary, sometimes millions cyclops

Yup, the ACC is 2-13 in BCS Bowls.
1 of those 2 wins was against a team that would join the ACC a few years later (Va Tech lost to FSUe)

Would be pretty funny if N.Illinois beat FSUe. The MAC after 1 BCS game would have only 1 fewer BCS wins than the ACC. Although I don't think N.Illinois deserved it this year, but most of the other "little guys" did and proved it.

  • Stats are stats and they show the ACC has not faired well. Nonetheless, we have no better system. You can always pick games that are "mismatches" because a system that is just corrupted is picking these "match ups" on a slanted view.

Bowls are complete BS, but the money there is so much that the bowls will have lobbyists to support their "intere$t$".

This. After reading Death to the BCS, it's hard to feel bad for any bowl officials. They get hundreds of thousands of dollars, get to claim non-profit status, for organizing a single football game a year. Not to mention all the perks. And perpetuating a system that nearly everyone with reasonable intelligence can see is a terrible postseason.

    Cry me a river.

Yea because a team that lost to a crap .500 Iowa state team deserved it more than a team that lost by 3 in over time to the national runner up. You're retarded, GTFO

How is that smart? You honestly think that FSU won't beat NIU by 16? I doubt NIU scores any TD's.

Yes because a team that lost at home to the team they were going to play a second time deserved it more...never mind Oklahoma State had a tougher schedule.
