Not attending the school you are a huge fan of...

Go to VT and both my parents graduated.

If you like a team where you've never lived, and you never graduated from there then there's an issue. Especially if the team was historically good for a number of years.

Duke basketball is a good example.

Explain the issue then? Most of us don't understand what the hell the issue actually is.
Down here the idiot aggies like to call everyone t-shirt fans since they didn't go to Texas or another B-12 school.

Its ignorant. A fan is a fan. Period.

  • I go to High Point University in North Carolina. Not really known for anything sports related. Just an awesome campus in a nice state. Still am a huge IU football and basketball fan.

    What is the issue?

    You're a bandwagon fan...

Ex: You're from the east coast and you're a huge USC fan, but only been one since '04.

  • I grew up in Knoxville and did my undergrad degree at Tennessee. My graduate degree is from Memphis and I never went to a single sporting event while there. Went there as my older brother lives down there and wanted to get out of Knoxville for a while.

The issue is you're a bandwagon fan. No way to slice it differently.

If you're not from the area of the school, you did not graduate, and you started liking the team when they were winning titles that's a bandwagon fan.

The first two in conjuction are fine, but the last part is key. Come on there were plenty of USC "fans" after they started winning titles, Duke "fans" after '01, etc.

A Hoosier dan from North Carolina, nice. Our games the last 2 years have been pretty entertaining.

    MikeHokie,

Hardcore Hawkeye fan here. I love Blacksburg man! The Cellar is one my favorite bars in America. As a result, VT is my second favorite college football team and I'm always checking in on your games every week. Go Hokies!

What if I became a fan when I was 8 years old, have been a fan ever since, but didn't attend the school.

Lmao, explain your situation between Iowa and MSU to MikeHokie, I would like to hear his opinion on that.

Well, I'm a proud MSU grad (class of 2004), but when it comes to football, I'm Hawks (and Hokies) all the way baby!

I could've graduated from USC, Ohio State, Michigan, Texas or Alabama, and I'd still get weak in the knees when I'd see the Swarm at Kinnick. Give me Pro-Set style Iowa football over that Euro-trash spread offense any day! cyclops

That's a bunch of ignorant bullshit. You sure you're not an aggie?

Who said I started liking them when they were winning titles? Wasn't me. I've liked the Horns since the early 80's when I first started really following college football.

    Calm down.

I meant "you're" in general, not directed at you specifically.

  • The problem with fans that don't attend the school is a lot of them are from the poorer communities and are caught in the cycle of poverty brews poverty. Due to this a lot of people who don't attend the school are red necks or rural people or simply the uneducated urban community that works blue collar jobs. I did not attend Alabama and if I had it to do over again I probably would not have attended because at the time I felt it was best for me and my situation to attend elsewhere. If I had it to do over again I would have accepted the full ride scholarship to Oklahoma

Why is it that the fans complaining are from the school that play second fiddle to other schools, sometimes called "little brother". Schools such as Texas A&M to Texas, MSU to Michigan, UCLA to USC, Georgia Tech to Georgia, Oklahoma State to Oklahoma, any fan to ND...

  • I grew up in daytona beach and have been a FSU fan my whole life. I was accepted to UF and FSU but went to UF since they had the better engineering school at the time. I never became a Gator fan, never. Loved and followed my Noles throughout my time in Gainesville without any issues or regrets.
