Not hiring people who smoke: Ethical?

    Now that doesn't bother me. And quite frankly, I agree with it. It's the not hiring people part, especially if they were to agree to only do so in their personal time, that makes me uncomfortable.

  • I wouldn't hire any if they smoked at all before or during the work day. Don't want to smell that crap. And yes. You stink. Just because smoking overrides your sense of smell doesn't mean the rest of us can't smell that crap.

    I wouldn't hire anyone who couldn't properly wipe their ass either. About the same smell.

    You missed my point, what's next, one does this more places, then what's after that, what else will companies say you CAN'T do in your personal life.

    I'm fine with no "smoke breaks" or banning from company property. It the idea that someone is telling me what I can can't do on my own time, at home away from work. Like telling me I can't eat fast food or live with my girlfriend without being married.

    This is America, stay out of my personal life.

    To be fair your smoking has a direct impact on your health and therefore health costs your employer pays.
