I got lit up on Twitter for saying the Irish were a title contender afte they beat Michigan in September. There was logic behind that. Notre Dame has an outstanding defensive front, one of the best in college football.
People ask all the time what separates the SEC from the other leagues and it is the size/athleticism combo from the defensive fronts. Ask any defensive coordinator and they will tell you that if you can get pressure with four, your job is a whole lot easier. One even told me once that that is the only way to stop a tempo offense- with great DL play.
I think Notre Dame has the defensive line to play with Alabama on Jan. 7.
Jabrill Peppers...More I watch, the more I'm convinced he is the best player in the 2014 class. Barring injury, he will do special things.

Agree 100% and have stated such multiple times on BOL. Quite possible that 2 of the ND front 3 will go in the Top 10 in the 2014 draft as I didn't realize that Stephon Tuitt and Louis Nix were as good as they are.
I think AJ to Cooper will be the difference in the game as I'm not sold that the ND secondary can contain Cooper unless they have safety help over the top wherever he lines up.

Heard/read that Cooper ran 4.38 at a Bama Camp in 2011 and he does display great burst, agility, and ball skills. Best WR I've ever seen play at Bama.....he's made 5-6 catches this year that I didn't think was possible when the throw was made.
Folks that question Cooper's ability should which his film/highlights from this season.

We all know what Alabama offers on offense and defense. We also know what ND offers on defense. What is going to be the big question is how much better will Golson get for the ND offense. First 6 weeks of the season, he clearly had talent but had lots to learn. The next 6 weeks, he grew tremendously as a QB and the leader of the offense. Now Brian Kelly has 6 more weeks to get him developed into the QB that can lead his team to a win in the BCS Championship Game. Everett Golson is going to be a major factor in this game.
Agree with Golson being a major factor one way or the other. But, I wouldn't call it "6 weeks." Bama just started back to practice today. I'd imagine ND is around the same time. That leaves, what ... just shy of 3 weeks with some time likely off for Christmas. Yes, still plenty of time ... but I think sometimes people get carried away with "6 weeks" or "almost two months" to get ready.
The other X factor in this is Kelly vs. Saban. Knowing how to properly prepare - and guard against - your team's mindset and ability to handle intense hype and scrutiny. Huge factor in all this.

As for the impact on defenses, but next year (if not next month), I see Cooper having the same impact that Julio did. Except to be honest I'd be more worried about stacking the box against Cooper then I would be Julio, as slants that go for 20 don't hurt as bad as having your corner burnt for long touchdowns. That in particular is special about Cooper, for somebody so young to be able to adjust on deep routes and consistently pull them in is amazing to me. I can't say for certain QB play wasn't a factor in this, but Julio rarely caught the deep passes.
Obviously the guy wasn't chopped liver by any means and like I said gets better every week in the NFL, but as much as I loved watching Julio maul defenders and turn short passes and screens into big plays, I think I'm going to enjoy two more years of Amari catching long passes with consistency more.

With ND not having a CCG, they had a week extra of studying film. I'm sure that 15 actual practices is still a good # for Golson. It's the film room. Not just watching with the other QBS, but also watching with his offensive line. He has plenty in the film room he can learn. It's not all physical.

No doubt, D-Mo. Plenty of time for everyone. But, you can achieve paralysis by analysis. So you have to be careful about overloading. #1 thing that coaches have to guard against in moments like this is over-coaching, or out-coaching yourself. Don't think either staff will do that though.

I think Cooper's a stud and don't know why you are trying to convince me. It's the other receiving options I doubt. We were able to handle Lee for the most part. Bama's rushing attack is 10x better, obviously. Then again USC's #2 receiver is probably 10x better than your second receiver. I'm really concerned about stopping your screen game too.
