Hello...any conference that would turn ND down would be, well...stupid. The powers that be in the BIG-10, are not stupid.

Well they aren't stupid for some things. biggrin

But yeh, no chance in hell the B1G turns down ND, nor would I want them to shut them down. ND just feels like a B1G team to me, having them in the conference would be cool.

Another program like ND would bring us a step closer to the SEC also.

ND, MSU, Neb, Michigan, tOSU, PSU, Wiscy and occasionally Iowa would set up for a very good conference.

I was going to post essentially the same thing. If ND comes knocking, you listen. Because it IS about money. And ND in the B1G would put that conference in the SEC realm as far as money goes.

SEC and B1G are essentially getting the same money already and they just signed their new deal in contrast to us where the national contracts are coming up in a few years.

Did 90,000 people show up to any of the Big Ten spring games?

I'm not sure off hand. I believe 81,000 showed up for Ohio State.

The ACC is a very good academic conference, but the BIG-10, PAC-10 (top half) are stronger research universities. That is confirmed by membership in the Association of American Universities.

Which is why ACC makes most sense...AAU ranks their schools differently than a lot of people. They base rankings heavily on Medical and Engineering rankings which is why they won't be AAU. Notre Dame doesn't have a Med school and they focus academics to the undergrad level because they care about actually teaching students. ACC fits in more ways in my opinion because the biggest draw to the BIG-10 would be its academic standing by a lot of people. ND in the ACC has a lot of rivals already included and in my opinion some of the more interesting non yearly rivalries as well like ND and FSU/Miami(Catholics vs Crooks). And bringing in UConn would also mean Basketball rivalries continue. ACC matches better. And AAU is not the live all be all in research. They of course rank the schools included in membership as the best research universities otherwise what would be the point? I don't see ND going anywhere anytime soon but hopefully it is in the ACC.

Yup, it was pretty packed for the first quarter and only the south endzone was 60% full, while the rest were about 85-90% full.

What relevant rivalries does ND have in the ACC?

Rivalry with Michigan kills anything they have with an ACC team, and MSU is a good annual game also.

Doesn't matter if your considering Notre Dame. Our fanbase alone is probably bigger than Indiana's, Northwestern's, and Iowa's combined. Ratings my friend. Anyone would love to have us. Although this whole story is taken completely out of context, if we were to join a conference...I would want it to be the B1G.

Bingo. ND is one of the gems of CFB and everyone knows it. Whichever conference they ultimately join will benefit. The one thing that would make me not want them in the B10 is if they want special treatment. We've seen what a "bull in a China shop" UT has been in the B12 and how it has destroyed that conference. We don't want that happen to the B10.

If ND would ever join #14 is Rutgers.

NFW. I can think of 5-6 teams I would go after before Rutgers. Rutgers would be a last resort.

Your math is off. We already make slightly more than the SEC in TV $ and our deals with ESPN and CBS come up for renewal much sooner.

ND vs Miami/FSU has decided National Titles.

I'd rather the ACC take PSU. They're not a real Big Ten team and PSU + UCONN would give the ACC an overwhelming dominance on the Atlantic Seaboard.

ND is mid-western and we don't need that crap. Pittsburgh is bad enough.

False, like I said. That's two years off.

Plus, ND will have an eight/nine game conference schedule no matter where they go so it really doesn't make a turd.

Actually, that's a good point. The B10 might be willing to keep its conference schedule at 8 games as a concession to lure ND. The B10 also could agree to stop at a total of 14 members. The ACC is already at 14 members and the pick up of ND almost certainly would mean a move to 16. It's hard to see how a 16-team ACC could realistically make an 8 game schedule work.

Big Ten scrapped the 9 game schedule when the Pac 12 alliance came about.

PSU will never walk away from the value it has created in BTN. They are pulling in over $10 million a year from it right now and that number is growing at 20% annually. PSU also hates ND from the double cross you pulled in the early 90s. The idea of PSU leaving the B10 to join the ACC along with ND is a pipe dream.

That's another good point. The B10 deal with the P12 meshes well with ND's desire to retain its rivalries with the P12. I even could see the B10 agreeing to an annual ND-USC match up (assuming USC agrees) if necessary to make ND's move to the B10 easier. ND would end up with an 8-game B10 schedule plus USC every year, leaving 3 OOC games to do whatever it wants with. And the B10 divisions could easily be adjusted to take care of ND's rivalries with UM, MSU, and Purdue as part of the B10 schedule. The B10 clearly offers ND the best situation in terms of scheduling flexibility.
