Notre Dame to join the BIG-10

If it happens, you'll have to stop by our tailgate and eat....of course, you'll see our resident Buckeye wearing his nut necklace, sitting in a tOSU chair.

Why we haven't stripped him naked and burned his chair, is beyond me. biggrin

Hey, quick question. Our AD has mentioned twice recently about an upcoming series with a P12 team. He is being very tight lipped, but it sounds like a 2014/2015 deal and we've narrowed it down to Cal, Oregon, Wazzu, Stanford, Utah and USC based on schedule availability. We've played Oregon and Utah twice in the regular season recently, so we're guessing it's not them. Have you heard anything about a possible series with us?

P.S. We will be incredibly disappointed if it turns out to be Washington State.

Finally the board (beginning this season) actually has some balls and you guys are playing someone outside of the MAC. Have you ever asked yourself why ND and Michigan are such a ''perfect'' rivalry?

Well...ah, hate to tell you, but do you blame them? There was some really ugly stuff the BIG was trying to pull off...the religious hatred and trying to get them banned from CFB - led by Michigan? The BIG even tried to get USC to stop the rivalry.

All that hate is why the Irish are independents...you created the monster. lol

We were just ahead of the curve, you've seen what's happened with the Catholic Church recently.

We play teams outside the MAC every year. We play you. And recently we've played Oregon and Utah and the UConn team that ended up in the Fiesta Bowl. Oh, and this year we open with Bama. The reality is that an 8-game B10 schedule is tough. How many times in the past 10 years has ND made it through its 3-game B10 schedule unscathed?

Yeah except that is false and we are set to be the most dominate basketball conference in america

Some of you need to realize college athletics isn't just football

Basketball doesn't make money. Louisville is one of the few schools to bring a decent profit from it's Basketball program.

The rights to the Tourny is where the money is at in college Basketball. The teams don't have those rights.

  • Joining the B1G would regoinalize ND severly. They dont want that. If ND join's a conference it will be the ACC. Bet that. ND will not & will never join the B1G due to the fact that back in the day like in the 40's the conference denied them when they wanted in & ND has had a hard on about it eversince.

  • ND is not going to join a conference anytime soon. The second they join a conference, they become non-existant. They now act important and different, the second they start finishing fifth every year in some conference they are just like every other team.

The website is called "sportales" - notice the "tales" part of that. It's made up.

And complete garbage 100% of the time. They basically spew out fictional "tales" regarding issues that have already been talked to death months after people stopped caring

I go back and forth on this one. I don't agree with the idea that Notre Dame just becomes a regional team if they join a conference. I think the only thing keeping them out as of now is that the BCS has allowed them to have a piece of the pie thus far. The second that gets taken away, they are will be in the first conference that make sense.

I could see them in the Big East before the ACC or B1G honestly, because a conference like that will still probably allow them to keep their NBC TV deal and wouldn't be much of a change to their way of doing things.

That is just my hunch with no facts or anything to base that on. The B1G is big enough to require Notre Dame to play by its rules, and I think Notre Dame is dead set against playing by someone else's rules. Honestly, Notre Dame needs the B1G much more than the B1G needs Notre Dame which is why I think they go elsewhere, They will want to be the main attraction where ever they end up.

Notre Dame has not become a marginal program because they are not in a conference. They have become a marginal program because of bad decisions. Constant poor coaching hires over the past 20+ years as put them in this position. The money, support, and everything else is there.

They are in big time need of a homerun hire and I am not sold that they made one this last time. They need someone that can look kids in the eye and say I am going to get you to the NFL and that's it. None of these recruits were alive when Notre Dame was great. Notre Dame can't point to success in a conference during the down years as some other schools can even when they were out of the national championship picture. That hurts, IMO. Kids want to win, compete for trophies (regardless of what kind), and have a chance to get to the league. Notre Dame has done very little of all 3 lately and they need something to turn that around.

    BetterOff

  • Then ND must belong in the WAC because they looked rather unimpressive against the two in 2011.

Players are leaving ND to go to BE programs...speaks volumes IMO.

I think your wrong about ND needing the B1G. The B1G has been trying to get into ND'S pant's since 99 & ND the "hot chick" has said NO everytime.

Of course the B1G would love to have them. Any conference would more than likely, but 20 years from now, the B1G will still be one of the elite conferences in the nation with or without them. Notre Dame needs to be in an elite conference if they want to get back to where they were. If the marginalize themselves by joining the Big East or maybe even the ACC, they could take a step back from where they are now.

The B1G is the richest conference around, why on earth would they need ND? I think the B1G would be happy to have them (just like every conference), but they by no means need ND.

A loss to Alabama isn't going to ruin anything for Michigan, IMO.

If it is a close game, it will serve Hoke well in recruiting and should give them a great look at where they are 4 weeks before they play another meaningful game.

Only good will come from that game.

Except now it's been 13 years and the "hot chick" has gained about 30 pounds, but still believes she's the hottest chick on the block.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

The hot chick might have gained 30 pounds but she's still pretty damn fine. ND brings in a ton of money, a ton of interest, tradition, and a country wide fan base. The B1G would accept them in a heart beat.

This. The addition of Notre Dame would bring in one of the most storied programs in the history of college football...and their stellar academics, national fanbase and alums (most concentrated in recruiting rich Southern California), a lot of money, power and prestige.

All the things the BIG-10 holds dear, lol.
