A loss to Alabama isn't going to ruin anything for Michigan, IMO.

If it is a close game, it will serve Hoke well in recruiting and should give them a great look at where they are 4 weeks before they play another meaningful game.

Only good will come from that game.

Only thing that will come from that game is proving that Michigan (like Notre Dame) doesn't quite belong yet with the big boys in the world of college football.

Perhaps, but I think you are underestimating the benefit of having a Nationally Televised game during prime time for the country to see.

Kids will see that game and think, wow I would love to play in a game with that much hype. And if Michigan manages to pull off a huge upset, the benefit will be massive.

The more national exposure you have, the better. Especially in this game which ESPN is going to hype like crazy, I imagine gameday will be there also.

What are you talking about? Notre Dame has a handful of games like that every year. And look at us. Mediocre at best since the mid 90's.

We probably won't beat Bama in the opener. But, then again, it's hard to think of a single team that would. And opening the season with a loss to Bama at JerryWorld is not nearly as bad as doing it with a loss to USF at home. We might not be all the way back to the top of the mountain in CFB, but at least we're sitting at the adult table.

And look at your recruiting. Even though your seasons have been covered in mediocrity for a while now, you still land studs from all over the country.

Nationally televised games help promote your brand, and because of that it helps recruiting. ND is a prime example of this.

Coaching up the talent is a whole other issue, but getting the talent to sign is half the battle.

Some of you need to take a look at the NFL draft by conference over the last 5 years before dogging the ACC.

You might be surprised at how many first rounders come from the ACC.

No top tier team, but lets not act like the Big 10 is full of great football teams either. OSU never did anything when given the opportunity, and Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin were average until last year or so.

You sound ridicilous trying to sell the ACC as a powerhouse conference.

The B1G is the richest conference around, why on earth would they need ND? I think the B1G would be happy to have them (just like every conference), but they by no means need ND.

Why does ND need the B10? Pretty obvious we don't or we would already be a member. Article on B&G today that says ND will remain Independent.

I didn't say they did, in fact I said earlier ND should stay independent as long they possibly can.

ND has a national brand, and joining a regional conference could impact that, especially if forced to give up NBC deal (not likely but possible).

  • what a useless 6 page thread.

Everybody knows that ND will one day join a conference. Everybody knows that it will be the B1G. ND is not joining the ACC. Ever.

ND vs Miami/FSU has decided National Titles.

I'd rather the ACC take PSU. They're not a real Big Ten team and PSU + UCONN would give the ACC an overwhelming dominance on the Atlantic Seaboard.

ND is mid-western and we don't need that crap. Pittsburgh is bad enough.

What is a "real" Big Ten team?

Which makes your lack of BCS bowl success (i.e., not even getting 2 teams most years) even more embarassing. Last ACC team to even make the title game was Miami in 2002. The B1G hasn't had the best success, but at least they've been in the discussion. The ACC NC contenders are usually out of the picture by mid-Oct.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • Their have been talks of Notre Dame and Texas to the Big 10. Between the schools and the Committee. Just discussed only, nothing for sure, but if the Big 12 doesnt hold up as expected, with the Pac 12 not looking to expand past 12 teams, the only option would be the Big 10. I believe if Texas were to make the jump, Notre Dame would almost be forced. The Big 10 would not settle for 13, they will look for another team and this could be Notre Dames chance and if they don't jump the Bandwagon, someone else will. (Rutgers, Pitt, Oklahoma, who would most likely try to follow Texas)

OSU, Mich-the team that beats ND year end and year out, Wisky-who has been to more bcs games than ND has the past 10 yrs. Mich st.-runner up Champ. Even Northwestern would giv ND fits, Nebraska too. Penn st also. Why you think the left the Indy's. They got no credit for winning in their conference. What is a real independent team??????? BYU almost????? I am not discriminating or hating on ND. I'm just saying those are the real Big 10 teams.

You got anything of substance on this or is some Bucknuts deep down in the heat of Texas BS stories some of you people were putting up early in the year?

    ErnieMcCracken

  • they need to join somewhere . ND can nolonger stand alone .

if so the TEN will have 13, so who makes it 14 ? Boston College ?

for a a splash (that couldnt hurt the B10) will they attempt to hijack OU, leaving the Horns w/ the little sisters conference ?

The one interesting thing to keep an eye on is that when ND renewed its TV deal last time around they only signed a 5-year contract, extending it through the 2015 season. That matches up extremely well with the B10's TV deal, which runs through 2016. That means there will be a small window coming up in a couple of years in which a ND-B10 deal could be done before either party is locked in again for another 5-10 years. Also, it makes you wonder why ND did not sign a longer extension when their contract with NBC came up for renewal at the end of 2010. Five years is a relatively short amount of time for these types of deals.

You can say what you want, I did'nt say this is a for sure thing. There has been talks about it. Google it or whatever if you have to. There is always a backup plan. If Notre Dame were to leave, I think BYU would join also with their recent success of somewhat. I don't believe Texas will join seeings how they are trying to pick the Big 12 back up. BC will never leave the ACC because they have recently been giving FSU a run for their money. They have more confidence after the Matt Ryan years.

  • I know ND wants to stay Indy, but why would'nt they join the richest conference in the NCAA when given the chance. I think they noticed that Nebraskas revenue jumped 50% after joining the B1G. It would be THE smartest move. I know they want to keep the tradition alive. But when Penn St. joined their revenue doubled, especially if ND can do what Penn St did and run the B1G the first year they joined. I don't see it happening but me being a Buckeye fan, I would be extremely proud of ND and the B1G.
