O8 Florida vs USC

Never been on that forum but I don't doubt it.

Hell we get a lot of USC fans over of Gatorbait all the time so it goes both ways.

Of course it does....but if you added honks from every team in the PAC....THAT is my point, we had to contend with trash-talking buffoons from every program in your conference.

Anyone who does not understand that USC would have won by 7-10 barring something unfortunate, really does not understand football.

Not that many people had UF stopping OU's, "best offense in the history of college football" either.

You sure about that? Big-12 was overrated that year.

    Please enlighten us.

Well there are some people who follow rankings, and allow those to dictate who is "better", and there are others who have played, the game, have coached the game, and really understand the game. The majority of fans fall into the former.

I'm guessing you fall in the latter, right?

If UF and USC played, it wouldve been a 1-6 pt gm, maybe 7 points.

OU and Texas were rock solid, Tech was solid. As for the rest of that conference, Im not vouching for.

  • If USC couldn't cover Quiz who is all speed how could they cover-Demps,Rainey,Percy,James,Hernandez,and Tebow who all have good/great speed for their positons?

I agreed that UF 08 would win, but if you're going to include Demps and Rainey, no sir.

Texas and Ohio St were about an even matchup, came right down to the wire. USC humiliated that Ohio ST team. Now I am not what to count too much into comparative scoring, but that is pretty telling. Though when it comes down to it, football is a game of matchups. UF had 2 outstanding college DE's, tall and long. They were going to cause problems for most if not all teams, but USC could have dealt with that better than most with 2 future NFL tackles. USC had the most physical linebacker corps in the country that year, with 4 guys going on to start as rookies, and 2 of them making All-Pro as rookies. I believe that Tebow would not have been able to run and convert those tough yards against USC, like he could against the other less talented defenses he faced that season. Harvin is going to be a nightmare matchup for anyone, and he certainly would have made plays. Would have been Florida's best weapon by far. I would have seen a 24-17 type of game in favor of USC.

Just because he was small doesn't mean he was a speed back. Quizz was not by any means a speed back.

Tebow converted tough yards against the likes of the Steelers, Jets, Bama, etc.

Thats only something he hasnt been stopped at yet, but sure that USC defense wouldnt have allowed it.

There was alot of NFL talent on that UF team as well.

Im not gonna play the hypothetical gm, of who wouldve won.

I just think it wouldve been between 1-7pts, possibly ot.

So your 7pt margin of victory is respectable.

    Who falls into "dumbass?"

I'll just post a few of the players on that team and what they've done since..

Haden - Most INT's as rookie in NFL
Major Wright - Starter for Bears at safety
Janoris Jenkins - Said to be as good or better than any corner in this years draft
Ahmad Black - One of the best college safeties ever at UF. Drafted by Tampa in fourth round

That's just the starting secondary that also played Will Hill

Spikes - Started for New England.. Had a great super bowl
Dunlap - Most sacks in NFL by rookie with 9
Cunningham - Early second round pick New England
Torrey Davis - Played in NFL as DT.. Made huge plays in title game as freshmen. Later booted off team.

That was just the defense that year..

Tim Tebow - First round.. Everyone knows about him. One of the greatest college players of all time
Percy Harvin - First round NFL rookie of the year
Mike Pouncy - Starter for Dolphins as rookie.. First round pick at center, which is rare
Markice Pouncy - Starter for super bowl winning Steelers as center.. FIrst round pick as center
Marcus Gilbert - Started as rookie.. Second/third round pick. can't remember
Louis Murphy - Started as rookie for Oakland. More receptions than first round WR they picked as rookie.
Aaron Hernandez - Started as rookie. Top 5 TE in the NFL. New England Pats
Cornelious Ingram - Drafted by Eagles.. Injured most of his career
Riley Cooper - Making noise for Philly.. Started games for them last year
Davis Nelson - Starter for Buffalo.. Led team in TD catches. Only player undrafted on this list. Made team and started as free agent signing.
Justin Trattou - Played for Giants last year
Chris Rainey - Signed with Steelers.. Four year deal
Jaye Howard - Drafted in fourth round at DT

Now I know that was a very good USC team and I know they've had some great players in the NFL from that team. That said, that UF team was playing as well as any team I've seen the last decade the last ten games of the season.

Beat SEC teams by an average of over 30 points a game that year. Largest margin of victory in SEC history. Beat a very good and undefeated Nick Saban coached Alabama team and did it without Percy Harvin. Held the most prolific offense in NCAA history to 14 points. They had scored 60 points in each of their last FIVE games prior to playing UF. Played the nations top schedule and beat back to back number one teams to win the title.

Given all this and the fact that the game was played in the Orange bowl, I'd have to say UF would have been the favorite and would have won. OU had a damn good team that year. Just look at the draft picks they had on both sides of the ball that year.
