OL Dawson to camp at UF

  • Dawson is going to camp at Florida. He states that he a Michigan commit but wants to go work out with SEC players. He has an offer from Florida (Bama is after him too) but this is not an official visit, which means it is not against Hoke's rule:

"That raises several interesting questions, notably whether it violates the no-visit policy that was installed last year by Michigan coach Brady Hoke. The Wolverines already exercised the rule once, dropping 2012 tight end Pharaoh Brown last year after he visited Oregon.

Dawson surely will receive the Gators' best pitch during his trip, but his situation also is different than Brown's because he's not taking an official visit."

lol So Michigan commits can camp at schools where they have offers but they can't visit. Discuss!

He did. That article was posted at like 6 am on Saturday morning. Dawson has said after that article was posted that he would not be camping at Florida. This guy is just trolling.

Yeah I saw that and also read on mgoblog he cancelled. It's just been more than a little strange. Really curious on his(Dawsons) reasoning. It all seems really out of the blue.

It sounded like Dawson was looking at the Florida camp in the same way as the Bama camp that him and his teemmates had attended. I guess after talking to the coaches they told him they didn't view it that way.

  • Brady Hoke will not deal well with Urban Meyer. It will make for great drama and hate between the rivals because both coaches will win. But Urban is going to drink a hearty amount of his milkshake based on this no visit rule.

Well, the one player who tested the rule was a 4-star TE out of Ohio but Meyer didn't land him, currently Hoke's rampaging through that alleged wall around Ohio, and this rule hasn't seemed to stop tons of high-ranked recruits from committing to Michigan and remaining committed to Michigan...

...but I'm sure Urban's totally going to take advantage of this rule to kick Hoke's ass. sarcasm

Not no longer welcome, but no longer considered a commit. Usually the coaches will actively pursue other players if they know a player is still visiting other schools. We're full at OL, and no longer recruiting any.. but if one were to take a visit we'd take that as a sign he isn't 100% committed so we'll continue to pursue that player as well as others until we have one that is 100% committed. I don't really consider that a poor tactic, especially with the way recruiting works nowadays the coaches don't want any last minute flips that makes them have to play catch-up looking for other recruits.

He'll convince some of your recruits that Hoke doesn't want them to make an informed decision and that if he really wants what is best for them he'd allow them to visit elsewhere.

Urban Meyer is like the 1970s quarterback of the high school team. He doesn't want a girlfriend, he just wants to hook up with your girl. And he can for the most part.

    fsufsu

  • So correct me if I'm wrong, but here's my understanding of all of this:
    1. No visits after committing--official or unofficial
    2. Commitments can camp anywhere they'd like unless the visit is from somewhere that has offered the commitment.

FWIW, I do think there is a big/relevant difference between camping and visiting (official or otherwise), but when the camp is somewhere that as offered the commitment, it's reasonable to assume that the staff where the kid is camping will have some contact with the commitment, so no camping.

Wow, this no-visit/no-camp rule is complicated!

lol Doubtful. Meyer hasn't flipped a Michigan commit yet, and he won't this year either. If he couldn't do it the first 2 seasons, why should he later on? Also, Hoke is a tremendous recruiter, I doubt that Meyer will just be able to go in all willy nilly and convince someone to flip.

I think going to team specific camps is more of a no no. Camps like the Opening, Elite 11, the Michigan camps, etc are okay.

Ah. I think you are misunderstanding the Hoke no visit policy. Take Laquon Treadwell for example. Hoke's no visit policy is working exactly how it's intended. Treadwell has come out and said it's inevitable that he will commit to Michigan and that he is 75% sure he wants to commit to Michigan. What is stopping him? He is thinking about visits to Oklahoma, Ok. State, and ND. All Hoke's policy is preventing Treadwell from doing is reserving a spot at Michigan while looking around. It's not preventing Treadwell from making an informed decision and I think the kids can see that.

From my understanding FNL in Gainesville is considered one of their biggest recruiting events? Seems like it isn't just solely a camp for competitions sake. Honestly, I think the conversations between Dawson and the coaches are ones we can't hear so we're all merely speculating.. but it is clear Dawson would prefer to remain a Wolverine commit rather than go "camp" at Florida.
